bitten by the Panda bug

Hard not to fall in love with these things. Today I purchased a 2007 and 2008 and now I have the bug for more. Question is, do I leave these in their original airtite plastic or is there a good album for them?

  • For strictly investment purposes, leave them in their capsules inside their mylar pouches. Having said that, I have broken every single one I own out of those and moved them into much more uniform airtites with black rings (40mm size). I believe Dansco does have an album for these, however IIRC it includes holes for the uncs as well as the proofs. So If you cant stand having "empty holes" in your albums, maybe you can just make your own dansco album with custom blank pages for 40mm holes.image

By the way, here is what the 20 coin complete date set looks like:

"and moved them into much more uniform airtites with black rings"

even though they are just bullion, you'll want to swap out the black rings for the white ones offered. The black ones will disintegrate and stick to the rims of these rounds.

    Also,

Unless you are familiar with the series and /or the seller, you should buy them graded.
Because of the popularity of the series ( read increasing prices ) there are a lot of fakes being produced.

I recently submitted 25 for grading for a customer/friend and 10 came back fakes.

Solid copper would be my guess, with a thin shell of silver.image

A few were silver and the three tiers of the temple of Heaven were subtley elongated.

Most weighed wrong. Didn't ascertain as to what the composition was.

The Customer wanted them back. he indicated that he was going to return them to where he had gotten them.

I will see if he still has any of them. If so, I will try to borrow them from here and post some pics if possible.

OT: Is this a well known thing that air tites with the rings do? Do the white rings no do this?
