Here is a direct quote from bobbyw8469 in someone else's selling thread on the Vintage Sportscard Trading forum.

"Vintage card prices has this card priced at $30...while you may think $50 is a good deal, it is obviously not....and even more not so in a down economy!"

You have a lot of nerve calling out that CU member for being A FEW dollars over VCP average, when all these cards you're offering are well over VCP average. The VCP average on a 1953 Topps Dick Kokos is $387.51 and you were asking $475 so who are you to say anything to anyone. So, it's OK for you to price YOUR cards well over the VCP average, but call out another member for doing it (on a lesser scale) in his own selling thread?

Ahhhh...my dear confused Nam!! Ye who likes to stirreth the pot!!.....You have mislead the people ONCE AGAIN! Yes, while it IS true that my cards have a BUY IT NOW number higher than VCP Averages, you neglected to tell people about the BEST OFFER option. Bidders are free to offer ANY AMOUNT they want to ony my cards. And I can tell YOU this sir......if you offered JUST VCP averages on my 4 remaining cards, YOU would be the PROUD OWNER of 4 freshly graded cards!!! Shoot, I would even let you offer me $10 LESS than VCP averages!!!! PUT YOUR MONEY WHERE YOUR MOUTH IS! You see sir, I do this as a HOBBY....not a business! I can afford to give people deals....if I make just a little bit of money I am happy! Shoot, I have even lost money on cards, I don't care. I just like helping people...I am a middleman. I am so you DON'T HAVE to buy cards from 707, All Star Cards, or any of these that do this for a living! I have a full time job, so I don't need to make the exorberant amounts of profit those guys do!!!

PS - Comparing the Kokos to Dick Sisler card is like comparing apples to oranges. The Dick Kokos I had was a HIGH GRADE, SHORT PRINT card for a much collected set (1953 Topps)....My card sold for $425 which TIED the high sale price for that card. The other seller was pushing a common Dick Sisler MID GRADE card from a set which, I am sure, doesn't have as big of a following (1953 Bowman Black & White). He is asking $50, which is a 60% markup from VCP average and would be a new world record it it sold!!!! You are a "Master Collector".....I shouldn't have to be bringing these to your attention!

Spin it however you like, but you were wrong to call out that member for doing the same exact thing you were. Also, who are you to decide which sets are important enough to gouge buyers and which arent?

Thanks for the offer, but I will pass on your cards.

I am not getting into a pissing contest with you, but I will say this...TALK IS CHEAP....I sell my cards for VCP prices, sometimes less if I have less in it....I offered you a chance to back up your words and, as usual, you let me down.....for you to come onto my selling forum and say I dont sell cards for VCP is ludacrous. As far as the 1950 Dick Sisler goes, do you think if I offered that seller $26 (which is VCP) he would accept it???? I don't think so......yet he bumps his thread everyday thinking someone wouldn't mind paying a 60% markup....talk is cheap my good friend......and actions speak louder than words.......good rules to live by......

  • Personally I hope you get the highest absolute price for your cards that you can get. Im not going to bash you or your cards, or your prices. Consider this a free bump for your cards. i dont subscribe to VCP nor do i use it. On Ebay there are quite a few Sislers for sale in various PSA grades: will they sell? probably not, but hey its a free country.

I certainly wouldnt accept $26 for it, I think thats cheap. I would accept $35, thats a fair price for a nice card. So again good luck with your sales

We're just taking it one game at a time. We have to give 110%. Anymore cliches? Once again thanks, but I have no use for your overpriced cards.

Ahh...Mr Nam....ye who likes to misconstrue the truth...I have to correct you ONCE AGAIN....you are spinning the truth so much, you are like a politician lately!! In reference to the word OVERPRICED, I sell my cards two ways:
#1) Ebay auctions starting at .99 cents and $9.99. It is hard to say I sell overpriced cards going this route, because the final price is set by the Ebay buying public! When I have sold cards via this route, I have gotten higher than VCP averages, as well as sold absurdly below VCP averages. I also don't set the final price when sold this way, so hard to say that I am selling "OVERPRICED" cards this route....so onto #2
#2) Buy it Now OR Best Offer. This route, yes, my starting price will be higher than VCP averages, but lower than my competition. Once again, if I am offered a price EVEN REMOTELY close to VCP, then whomever commits the offer, WILL OWN THAT CARD!! No hemming and hawing....I do this to flip cards, not sit and hold them waiting for a miracle price 60%-75% above VCP average! So, when I am selling the cards for VCP averages, it is hard to say that those are overpriced because I am selling for the AVERAGE selling price...

Basically, I called your bluff, you crumbled, and for some reason you are still responding to this thread. You look foolish the more you speak.....

Now, onto StopYurWhining.....you sir, I owe an apology to. I guess I should have not said anything on your thread. You kept bumping it EVERY SINGLE DAY though, and I felt maybe you didn't realize that your price was extremely high, and that's why there was no interest in your card.....therefore I spoke up....to let you know your error....that was a mistake on my part. I do hope you sell your card, and set a new world record for Dick Sisler!

Now that the foolishness is behind me...ONTO THE CARDS!!!

    1953 Dick Kokos PSA 8 - $475 OBO --- SOLD ($425)
    1979 Wayne Gretzky ROOKIE PSA 6 - $225 OBO
    1954 Johnny Pesky PSA 7 - $75 OBO
    1955 Willie Mays PSA 4 - $160 OBO --- SOLD ($130)
    1960 Mickey Mantle PSA 4.5 - $200 OBO

If noone on the boards wants to offer close to VCP averages for these cards, after their one month run is out, I will put them on Ebay for $9.99 each and let them go....high man gets 'em!

    Pesky and Gretzky is left!!
  • bobbyw8469bobbyw8469 Posts: 7,144 ✭✭✭
I have dropped Gretzky down to $195 and Pesky down to $65.....DEFINITELY the cheapest on Ebay for the grade (I believe 707 is selling a Pesky in a 6 for $75, and I saw a Gretzky in a PSA 5 for $295!)
  • bobbyw8469bobbyw8469 Posts: 7,144 ✭✭✭
Gretzky is gone.....I only have the Pesky left...the cheapest card of the bunch (pricewise that is).....lets go!
