I've been here for 7 years...
Well, tomorrow's my 7th year anniversary at CU, but since I won't have computer access, I'm posting today!
Let's just start out at the beginning. I came here in 2001, when I was 14 and in 9th grade. At the time, I'd never been beyond a few local shops, had made a few sales/purchases on eBay, and knew most of what I knew from books. I didn't so much as know what a coin show was, nor where any local ones were. Soon after joining the boards, I learned it all, and a whole lot more. I was shown the ropes of coin shows, from local to the big leagues, and trained my eye immensely on what to look for in an eye appealing piece. But even with all the knowledge I've learned over the past 7 years, nothing has been more important to me than all the people I've been able to meet, whether just through online chats, or in person. The community here is what makes it such a great place, and amidst all the bickering and whining, we're pretty lucky to have it around.
And to put it in perspective:
-I've been a CU member for 33% of my life
Since I've joined, I've...
-Gone through 4 years of high school
-Finished 3 years of college
-Learned to drive
-Voted
-Learned to fly
--Flown with 2 different board members
--Piloted myself twice to visit board members
-Become old enough to buy alcohol
-I've gone to more coin shows than I can count
-Gotten access to the Smithsonian coin vault
-Gone to multiple hockey and baseball games because CU members were there
-Been to the ANA Summer Seminar 3 times
-Seen my collection and knowledge grow exponentially
-Seen the generosity of the board members here and raised over $35,000 for charity
It's been a fun 7 years... here's to another few decades!

"Inspiration exists, but it has to find you working" Pablo Picasso
They helped me out so much and to realize that I wasn't the only crazy person collecting coins
Now, as for your list, most of those I can relate w/ but some need some tweaking:
-Gone through 4 years of high school (check)
-Finished 3 years of college (in my second year)
-Learned to drive (check)
-Voted (will havedone so in a month)
-Learned to fly (well, not quite)
--Flown with 2 different board members (maybe?)
--Piloted myself twice to visit board members (nope)
-Become old enough to buy alcohol (in 11 months)
-I've gone to more coin shows than I can count (CHECK!!!)
-Gotten access to the Smithsonian coin vault (not yet)
-Gone to multiple hockey and baseball games because CU members were there (ne)
-Been to the ANA Summer Seminar 3 times (2x is close enough)
-Seen my collection and knowledge grow exponentially (FOR SURE)
Here's a warning parable for coin collectors...
Just wait until you guys hit your 30's, 40's , and 50's. It's a vast world.
Happy Anniversary.
My 2 year was last month, and like you, have learned so so so so so much here.
But unlike you, I've voted 3 times already.......
Keep it up, I always enjoy your insightful posts.

Too many positive BST transactions with too many members to list.
something with a 7 in it
oh...don't go nowhere and fly safe
Congratulations! Isn't is awesome how, no matter how much we thought we already knew about something, the passage of time teaches us how much more there was (and is) to earn?
I am 40 years past high school graduation but am always learning here.

What does "finished 3 years of college mean"?
You got your degree in 3 years?
Or after three years, you are 'finished' with that and you are leaving without a degree?
I certainly hope the former.
Was it you that also ran that auctiony-charity thingy? If so, you should mention that too!
I doubt that many of the newer members even realize what you got to see at the Smithsonian, not to mention the illustrious company you enjoyed there.
New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.

Seems like there's something missing from your list; hint, it involves an activity with people who have XX chromosomes.

Good call on both counts. I'm in my 4th year, and I do need to add the auctions to the list.

I think he meant he's completed his first three years of college and is working on his fourth.

This seems a bit random, and I thought I had the braincells that don't fire in perfect synchornicity!!

So whats happened to me since I joined in August of 2001?
1. My wife died.
2. Three of my brothers died.
3. I had my second heart attack and double bypass surgery.
4. My 18 year old son joined the Navy (he's 21 now).
5. I took in a 3 year old foster child (he's 5 now & I'm adopting him).
6. I had 2 strokes, and carotid surgery for it.
Everybodys life is different.
Ray
Hope your next 7 years are as fulfilling.

When I get engaged, I'll start a new thread. No idea when that will be, though.
I've been here a few days myself too.
In this time all I've done is begun to shave my back
And I have to shave my ears and unibrow too.
Now don't no one tell the wife I said that.
