Lowest Premium Over Spot?

CladiatorCladiator Posts: 18,050 ✭✭✭✭✭
In general which of these can be obtained, relatively easily, with the smallest premium over the spot price of silver?

I'm inclined to think the Canadian Silver Maples are but figured I'd ask around a bit.

USA Silver Eagle
Canada Silver Maple
Mexico Silver Libertad
Australia Silver Kookaburra
Australia Silver Kangaroo
Australia Silver Lunar
China Silver Panda
Austria Silver Philharmonic
Egland Silver Britannia

ps. Anyone know of any other government issued 1oz fine silver (.999 or better) bullion coins?

  • I usually see the Maples and Philharmonics with the lowest premiums.

I was going to chime in and agree that Silver Eagles have the lowest premium, but I just checked Tulving's site and they are up to $5.99 premium, same as Silver Eagles.

With 100 oz. bars at $1.99 over spot, if I were in the market to buy right now, I might even be tempted to go with the 100 ozers as a play on silver.

Added: Whoops, I checked MAPLES, and they were the same $5.99 premium as the ASEs.

I bought a large group of Mexican silver onzas over the counter the other day that I am selling at +$4 in lots of 50. Some people complain because they are .925 fine rather than .999, so I tell them that if they want .999 I have rolls of silver eagles at +$6.

I saw those commems. on eBay and they look quite crude. Are they actually made by the govt. of South Africa? By the looks of them I'd assume not but you never know.

I have always assumed that they were privately made.

  • If the economy is in the toilet, then I would not think silver would be that much in need.
I guess I don't understand the thinking as to the value of silver.

I have a couple of them I got from my parents when I was younger. Not sure who made them, whether they are worth more than spot or whehter they are really from South Africa or not. Here's a pic of one of them though:
