Literally seconds ago, as I was in a heated discussion with a lawyer in China about transferring the shares of a Chinese company from Mauritius, the mail boy handed me a package. I tore it open, and included within was the Whitman Tokens and Medals book, and the Whitman Gold Dollars book.

I first picked up the Tokens and Medals book, made sure that it was exactly 288 pages, and quickly perused it. As with all books, I checked to see where it was printed, and noted that this book was printed in the China, as expected.

Then I picked up the Gold Dollars book, and immediately noticed that something was wrong. I opened the cover, to see if QDB personalized the book as I asked for. I was delighted that he not only signed it, but also wrote a personal note to Longacre. But I still felt as though something was wrong.

Then I noticed it. There is no score line on the Gold Dollar book, making the book a little more difficult to open. I was about to become enraged and lambaste Whitman for taking away my beloved score line (no doubt to save an extra tenth of a cent or two in production costs). However, I looked further at the title page of the book, and noticed for the first time ever, that this Redbook Series book was printed in the good old USA! I am willing to make a personal sacrifice and live without a score line, if that involves keeping Americans at work in these troubled times. Kudos to Whitman! image

Longacre: the Guide Book of United States Tokens and Medals (or "GBTAM," pronounced "jeebee tam") is actually a plump and pleasing 304 pages... unless the mailboy ripped out the section on Presidential Campaign Medals and Tokens, in an attempt to keep partisan rancor out of The Man's offices. (It's bad enough to have numismatists prowling the vending machines at all hours; you don't need Whigs and Know-Nothings battling it out in the break room!)

A score line has been dropped in the mail for you, and should arrive early next week, First Class, insured.

A score line seems to be a very light crease along the glue spine of a paperback which will (slightly) enable opening the book. Dentuck can clarify if I got this wrong.

Longacre - I have some score lines of various lengths and widths that I will mail to you. These are left over from the Peace dollar book Whitman is publishing. I also have some extra footnotes and punctuation, if you need them for one of your international tax law tomes.

Hey, no fair. You offered those footnotes to me first image

Is it OK if I just borrow some from one of your other books instead image
