Ebay sellers that take vacations and don't ship your coins until 3 weeks later.

Should any buyer that is a coin hobby collector and not a flipper give a seller that forgot to ship your coins won on a ebay auction or any other auction because they went out of town of a vacation or other business?
I just got a email from a seller that just got back from a vacation and forgot to ship coins won days before the end of that auction. I know I will "NOT leave negative feedback because I got a wholeheartly I'm sorry. My coin will be sent out today.
As I read some of these ebay cops and rant waving members and collectors on here they feel the items/coins should be sent in a timely manner because they paid for them.
Just wanted to feel some of your takes on this issue. thanks

I would be highly unlikely to deal with such a seller again. Their actions
indicate the priority they place on customer service.

Dealing with eBay and Vacations is a pain in the butt!
You can set your store in vacation mode but every item is still available for purchase. You can setup a Vacation Email but the casual eBay user will get lost trying to figure it out and then trying to turn it off.
When I went on vacation, instead of going through all the crap involved with setting it up and running the risk of some irate customer giving me a neg while I was on vacation with my family, I just removed everything that was for sale.
I would never consider not doing business with any ebay seller that went on vacation but had forgotten to set up his store in vacation mode and yet apologized profusely upon returning from vacation over items thathad been sold.
Family Values should come before customer service IMO as anytime a business interfere's with a family then the appropriate steps need to be taken to insure that the family does not suffer.

Once, I had an auction that was closing while I would be in DC. I took the coins with me and shipped from the Holiday Inn in DC.
I can understand how something like an Ebay auction can be forgotten by a seller in the event of some real-life event, but at least the seller should have notified you EARLY! Good grief, internet cafes are everywhere.

After two weeks, I would have forwarded to Paypal. Probably less if Ihad no correspondence from the seller. What did you do?
Communication and customer service are the most important seller attributes ( properly represented products should be a given). My last two ebay transactions have been bad. The first one is in dispute. The seller totally disappeared and for three weeks did not answer any emails and or phone calls until i filed a complaint for non shipment. within an hour he emailed me with an attitude and a bunch of excuses about retiring from the military and having this meeting or that appointment. blah, blah, blah. Have the courtesy to communicate. he basically said that he didn't want to honor his auction because i complained. Thats total BS. He didn't want to honor his auction because of the low selling price.
The second auction that has gone south is about 12 days old. the only communication I got was a thank you for the fast payment. after a week I have emailed to ask about the shipment and a tracking number. No response. three days later I emailed again. no response. i'll give him the benefit of the doubt and wait another week. If he doesn't respond, I'll head to dispute land. Both of the items (a signed lithograph and a Garmin Chartplotter) sold for well below market price.
it appears that the modus operandi as a seller lately on ebay these days is that if you don't get your price , just don't ship the product.
Well there's my rant for the day.

Exactly. There is zero excuse for NO communication for 3 weeks. If a seller is going
to be climbing Mt. Everest, then they should effectively shut down their store or
have someone else handle transactions.

If you sell on eBay on a consistent basis, even doing that won't help.
When I'm planning a vacation, I have my last auctions end two weeks before I leave. Should be plenty of time to get everthing settled before I go, right? Guess again.
About a week before, I send an email to every bidder whose payment hasn't yet arrived (there are always some), letting them know that if their check/mo/PP payment shows up while I'm gone, I'll ship their item when I get back. Invariably, I'll get at least one email during my trip saying "I sent my payment [usually a PayPal payment, since check/mo buyers seem to have a little more patience] on X/XX- [the day after I left on vacation] has my item shipped yet?"

You'r to generous ... only deserves a 2 in my book.

As long as I get the item as described and pictured and don't get charged more for shipping than indicated in the listing, the seller gets a positive and all 5 stars. I've never been in so much of a hurry to get something that the time it takes to ship and deliver it is a factor in determining the feedback rating.
Just give him a single * for shipping time. He does deserve that for being irresponsible.

True, non-communicative buyers are just as annoying as non-responsive sellers. My
auctions state that I expect payment within 7 days of closing (and I send a reminder
at that time). If the buyer doesn't comply, I feel that the contract has been breached,
and I'm under no obligation to ship within a certain time frame should payment then
arrive at a time inconvenient for me.
If you want "perfection", don't use ebay. Most of the sellers are still individuals and not businesses.
If they say they are a business, I would take it differently. If they are individuals, I would say expect things like this and if you don't, go elsewhere because ebay, obviously, isn't for you.
I wouldn't ding them because that is me....I like to give benefit of the doubt. (again, that is if they are NOT a business operating on ebay).
I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment
They say in the auction "I ship within 2 days of payment"
But they also use a BIN on the items. If you use BIN on the first few days then you often get the item shipped when the entire group ends.
Not worthy of a neg but unless they explain it or send an update that they will ship it soon they don't deserve 5 stars for shipping.
With ebay's new fee structure based on stars, you almost have to.

<< <i>I notice is that some sellers list a group of items (lets say 10 day listings) that all end on the same day. (that way they can ship everything that was paid for in one trip to the PO)

Other threads indicate that this would get less than 5 stars for shipping, perhaps as low as 2. Thus, I ship every day. --jerry
