Cook Island $20
What do you think of this one...I don't collect coins from Mad Marty's playground, but this one is unique.

This coin is part of a series of 3 ounce Swarovski crystal insert silver coins with beautiful pad color printing of classical masterpieces, like Rafael's "School of Athens".

"Bongo drive 1984 Lincoln that looks like old coin dug from ground."

It's innovative, I suppose. And pretty enough. I guess I'll give it a thumbs-up
One Cook Islands piece I really liked was the dollar that had a hole in the middle and a clear capsule mounted in the center of the coin so you could see through it, and inside were all those little loose faceted gemstones rattling around. I had the silver version of that (zirconia for the white stones). It was sort of like one of those old fashioned kaleidoscopes, except with tiny gemstones instead of bits of colored glass. And mounted in the middle of a coin. It had that "bling" factor, which made it attractive to the thieves who robbed my antique mall booth in 2006. That was one of the coins stolen, along with a VG US Seated dollar (ouch) and some nice 1500s-dated European coins (ouch).
I'll give it a big
Jim
<< <i> It took a while in getting used to it. I like the reverse, but for the obverse...yuk...they should have selected a younger QE2 >>
OK, yeah, the colorized part has grown on me. Since it's reproductions of old paintings, I think it's kind of neat.
As to the queen, though, I disagree- nobody is as beautiful in their 80s as they are in their 20s, but a realistic portrait allows us to see her age on the coinage, just as with Victoria. I say the old queen looks fine to me, in the context of things. Let her age gracefully. I think she has. Nobody stays eternally young, right?

Good point. I should know.

The Mayer Mint is a private mint in Germany - an equivilant operation to England's Pobjoy Mint & Commonwealth Mint,& New Zealand's own New Zealand Mint.
I'm not sure if they have got a website, but I'm sure you can find it through using Google.

Not my cup of tea. I like coins in the traditional sense.
I do have the painted Pandas though. Only because I collected them all.
