newpaper archives online are good research tools!

I did a search for "Lost ring" and found some people that had posted reward back in 1961 looking for a lost ring at Chip's Driving Range in San Mateo, CA. I don't see any listing for Chip's Driving range, so that'd take some more research, but it's not a bad tool to find out where picnics, festivals and fairs were.

News archives, both at the paper's headquarters, and libraries are excellent sources of information. Historical societies are another source - also, do not overlook retirement homes... oldtimers love company, have a lot of historical knowledge, and enjoy passing on information. Cheers, RickO
  • That's a good site except if you want to cancel your subscription. When I was a member, you had to fill out a 4 page questionaire online as to why you want to cancel, then fill out all your credit card info, then print the results page, then fax that in, then call and confirm they received the fax. Talk about jumping through hoops... After all that, it didn't work and they told me to do it again. I asked to just cancel my account over the phone. No, they can't do that. They need the survey and the results page faxed in first. Instead, I just changed my account to a credit card I was cancelling and then killed the account that way. Let them figure it out....

Wow DSG.... that would be unacceptable. I would tell them, via written, registered mail, to terminate my account - and file suit if they failed to do so (grounds, undue harassment). Cheers, RickO
  • True...but, it is a great site. I've never found any better. It's just the cancellation process that was horrible.
