Very dramatic error... well beyond your normal clips, off-center, and brockage stuff. I don't know squat about the error market, but I can easily see someone being enamored with it from an aesthetic standpoint.
I agree AU58 was a gift. This coin reminds me of the 1964 Quadruple struck Lincoln that MrD sold a few months/years ago for moon money. Oddly enough I saw it or some very, very similar to that piece this weekend.
There was a lot of shilling going on... that coin has been on EBay once raw and 2-3 times since slabbed.
It's not worth 4 figures as I can buy a AU58 1953-D just like it right now for tons less the price realized... which I might if the under bidder is sulking!

1953 Lincoln Cent from the Denver mint. Coin is double struck in collar and rotated about 160°. A second date is visible on Lincoln's head, an outline of the first strike head is visible on the vest plus part of the motto under. Reverse first strike details are faint but visible. Slabbed and graded by PCGS as AU58.

There's a nearly identical coin dated 1945 up for bid right now, except this one is raw and the seller (who is a forum member) lists several reasons why he thinks it may be a fake. Even in the PCGS holder, I wouldn't have touched the coin linked in the OP with a 10 ft pole. At the final hammer price, you could make that a 100 ft pole.

I feel URANUS MONEY is more like it on this one
I'd happily pay more than $1000 for that one.

FYI, here is the raw coin on eBay:
Dave
Nevertheless, it is pretty darn nifty.
I like the 1945 that Dave99b posted.
