Yes I saw it and no I don't think the portraits will be shrunk to accomodate it.

I think it would have looked better on the reverse as one of our members showed but then I guess that would have outraged somebody somewhere!
I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.

..........i think EVERYTHING should be on the obverse and reverse of the coin and..............NOTHING on the edge! image

That would work for me but for some reason or other, they decided to go with that edge lettering stuff which I would assume was to allow for better portraits and cost savings at having multiple reverses for each of the presidents in a specific year.

So..........since the obverse has to be done each time anyway, I guess they figured they might as well do it there.

Probably 6 of one and a half dozen of the other!

........still don't like the edge lettering. i like to be able to see the date without pulling out a loup and staring at the edge for it. image

I agree with you on this one as well.

I started mounting my Washington's into albums a long time ago. Obverse side up. Along come the State Quarters and ole "dummy" here continues to mount them Washington Side up! After a couple of years it dawns on ole "stupid" here that the date isn't showing!

So................I can either go in and change them all so that the date shows, and I talking P, D, S, and S, or just leave Washington Side up!

    I left them!

For the Presidentials, there is no way to tell them apart, datewise, other than to know what was done when. image

I'd like to find a few like that with smooth edges again like I did with the Washingtons.

Edge lettering, as performed on the modern coinage, is terrible. Not nearly as good as when performed on the older coins. Just aesthetically crappy. Cheers, RickO

I suppose this could be applied to current coin designs as well given the "mass" production requirements of low relief coinage.

I get a kick out of comparing early Lincolns with todays Zincolns as the design has gone way downhill. The same is true of coins as late as 1964!

They won't stop the edge lettering.
They have to justify the investment in that Schuler Edge Lettering machine.

I am excited to see the mix and match of the Presidential Dollars and the Sacagawea dollars next year, when they ALL will have edge lettering!

Besides..The Sac Dollar collectors have been missing out on all of the fun.

    Like a 2009-P Sacagawea Weak Edge Lettering - Pos A - MS67 coin !!!

Or a "Missing Edge Lettering" Sac Dollar, which if they make some will be hard to detect even in circulation since they didn't have edge lettering in previous years!
