Hey, a new pet peeve!!!

Got a package of 10 silver Onzas today.

I can tell what they are, because when the package is handled, I hear 10 raw silver coins banging and rubbing against each other. JINGLE JINGLE JINGLE.

What is wrong with this picture?
Well, anyone who handled this package and knows what silver sounds like...knows that silver is in this package. I guess i'm glad I got it.
And I have 10 beaten up bullion coins.

Should I leave a neutral or a negative for this eBay creep?
Probably not. They were just cheap pieces of bullion and are probably not worth any less now.

I don't need to see stupidity like this. Makes me angry.

I sure have seen worse packaging posted here. A morgan taped to a scotch brite pad was the worst i've seen.
It's always bad to get an item you paid for in a poorly packaged and somewhat damaged state.

Comments

  • If unhappy, leave a neutral at the least, then explain the packaging debacle. The sellers can't leave retaliatory negs anymore, remember?

I do not like to play that game of hiding behind eBay's bad policy decisions.

I would not feel good about it. That's my test.

I will probably leave a positive as there is no real harm done other than to my fragile ego.

Venting helps. I am happy this forum is here. I hope I do not abuse it too much.
  • Several years ago I bought two 1 ounce Gold Eagles on the Bay.

Seller had decent feedback and I paid the right price for shipping and insurance.

A week goes by and I receive a #2 envelope with three first class stamps on it and a lower corner of the envelope torn off.

Fortunately, the two coins were in a flip and still enclosed. I really expected an empty envelope when I first laid eyes on it.

Nothing else in the envelope and no return address either.

I left a positive, but if any bidder read it, it would sound like a negative. I just laid out the facts on the shipping.

I never again bid on his stuff, he was NARU'd a few months later over non-delivery. What a surprise.

Yeah but think of all the future packages he'll send out with loose coins in them. That'll happen because you didn't warn people.image

wow, You sound like on of those eBayers I despise. Just looking for a reason to leave neg feedback. I can't stand eBay's new FB policy. I would email the seller and tell him the mistake and maybe some suggestions on how to do it better instead of just leaving neg or neut feedback like some are itching to do.image
    Its all relative
  • It was a neutral experience at the least why should he leave a positive. This is what was wrong with ebays feedback system before. The whole issue was sellers getting positives in non positive situations.

I would have got mad if that happened to me. Wonder why some people can't learn to ship better!

I used to collect boardgames and I had a seller wrap the boardgame in a paper bag and shipped it like that. Needless to say, the game was crushed, etc!!!

  • Well, I recently had a similar experience. I used part of the cash back money to buy a New in the Box RC car for my daughter, one of those big ones that come in a package about over foot long, and probably 8 inches or so by 8inches or so high and wide. The guy just wrapped the box (really flimsy boxes if you know what I am talking about NIKKO I think) in shipping paper, and shipped it like that. Needless to say, the paper was ripped and the box in less than good shape when it arrived.

I just took the RC car out, made sure it worked OK, put a Bow on it, and ended up leaving a positive for the guy, but in the comments, I did recommend he package items like I purchased in more than shipping paper in the future.

I can understand both sides of this, wanting to leave a neg, or a neutral, but since it was really more ignorance, at least to me, in how to properly ship, why help ebay make more money? I chose not to dock the guys feedback, as I did get what I want, even if the process wasn't perfect.

Everyone has their own way of dealing with these situations, I just thought I would share my most recent.
imageQuid pro quo. Yes or no?
  • Yes sir,

I received a very nice Proof Like set once, that the seller basically tossed in a bubble mailer and mailed it.
The Coins were not secure in the holder and because it was flexible the coins were allowed to pop out loose in the
mailer. Coin popcorn in a bag.

When I first got involved on e-bay, I purchased some custom made oak speaker stands. It took a month for me to receive them, and then they left out a channel to run / hide the speaker wire that was supposed to be in them. I left a negative without talking to him first.

I immediately got a retaliatory negative, and he later did fix the error, but as I told him, it wouldn't have changed my feedback talking to him to straighten it out first. It was an item that took a long time to fill and the fact that it then arrived without a major feature DESERVED a negative. What if I'd been ordering them as a gift and had a time issue?

E-bays past policy made everyone (in less you just didn't receive the item at all) leave false positives and totally undermined the feedback system. I for one applaud the change, and I believe you can still leave a reply comment if someone leads you a negative if you want to tell your side.

No, it didn't make everyone leave false positives- just buyers who were more concerned about getting a neg than leaving accurate feedback. I've left a number of negs with my buying id and got a couple in return- so what? How did it hurt me? Answer- it didn't. It was buyers who were afraid of getting a neg who undermined the feedback sysytem by leaving undeserved positive feedback for crappy sellers.

Again, that demonstrates the problem. The idea you should have TWO separate id's, one to buy and one to sell. Some of us ACTUALLY do it all on one to provide a real history of our actions. The fact you felt you had to have a separate ID as a buyer just so you could leave honest feedback says it all.

  • << <i>Again, that demonstrates the problem. >>

If the problem is buyers refusing to leave accurate feedback, I'd have to agree.

<< <i>The fact you felt you had to have a separate ID as a buyer just so you could leave honest feedback says it all. >>

I didn't feel I had to- I have two ids because I think keeping my buying and selling history separate is a reasonable thing to do. That I don't get negs from other sellers on my selling id is just a bonus. I understand that not everybody agrees with that concept, but it seems sort of silly to me to complain about not being able to leave honest feedback for fear of having your seller profile "damaged" when there is a simple way to avoid the problem in the first place.

edited to add... I don't mean to be giving you a hard time over this. I'm just not seeing why buyers were so afraid of getting undeserved negs when they wouldn't really be hurt by them. Maybe if buyers hadn't whined so much about those negs and just kept leaving honest feedback for crappy sellers (one can dream, right?), those sellers would have figured out that particular tactic wasn't effective, and stopped using it.
