I've received 2 1939 Jeffersons in change within the past week

Just thought I'd share the fact that I was just given another 1939 Jefferson nickel in change today. I also received one on Sunday in change. The first one I got is a great xf that couldn't have been in circulation for much amount of time but the one I got today is maybe only a g and shows it has been around. Thought that this was very nice the first time, but now twice? 2 different stores but only about 10 miles apart. Would love to know the story behind these. I know neither is worth much but it sure is cool to get something like that in change.

    That is cool- any "free" acquisition is welcome. In the early 1990s, I got the 1939 doubled MONTICELLO in VG, and the 1939-D in XF in rolls of nickels from the bank. They are out there if you look! I think I have 30-40 of the regular 1939-P and a couple of 1939-s nickels from circulation too.

    Regardless of their worth, these are always fun to get in change! Every so often, I have gotten silver war nickels. But only VERY occasionally.

    I've always noted that at first glance the "3" in 39 could easily be confused with a "5". As a result, the odds of finding a 1939 are greatly increased.

    I expect that these were philly coins?
    I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.

    my most recent "find" was a 1964 washie with just the slightest rub on the high spots. as soon as i got the change in my hand i heard that distinct sound that is so different than our clad and nickel coins sound.

    i think with today`s economy many people are digging out coin jars/cans/albums and spending them.

    Back in the 1970s, I found dozens of the 1939 in circulation. I still have the best one, it's AU or better.

    Yes, they were both Phillies.

    I just found it odd that all of a sudden there are 2 of these received in change and not too far apart. I just wonder if these were recently released into circulation around here or if it's just a great coincidence?

    Other than these 2, the only other unusual find of mine was a 1960 silver dime I found on the floor in a Best Buy store last year.
