Perhaps it was a gift from a Colorado Avalanche fan to a Detroit fan...

    Ok... no idea! image

It's a die defect whose nature and origin are unclear.

    Is the holder empty?

If not, whats unusual about the coin with in it?
I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.

The "flames" are on the leading edge of the eagle's wings. Sorta looks like fire on the leading edge.

    Sorry, I don't have pics,

The flaming eagle variety or flaming wings in this case is an obsolete variety of the sac dollar in which the wings on the reverse eagle have a fuzz all along the vertical wing. I have owned three of those coins, they are usually slabbed as a "reverse die damage" or something similar. I have requested PCGS to attribute them but at the moment they refuse. They seem to be rare as I have only come across 3 to date.

What is the grade on your coin? The finest I have seen is an ANACS 67.

    One of these?

    Flaming Eagle or Flaming Wings
    This one is an MS66

But, it does not have a variety designation.

    Understandably so.
