It was time to clean house!

About one month ago, I was staring at my coin collection scattered about our dining room table and wondered aloud, what is my focus?

I saw SBAs, SACs, Ikes, state quarters, and other proof coins without any apparent rhyme or reason. I also saw my MPLs and my SMS sets and knew what I had to do - I had to purge and bring some order to my collecting.

A couple of emails later, and my "extras" were off to Russ to sell on eBay.

Now I have a total of 70 PCGS coins and I truly feel like a collector, a serious collector with a focus and a goal.

Anyone else had a similar experience? image

Going through the same thing here. I do have my core collections in Danscos, but it seems like I have many replacements in case one of the coins in the Dansco album dies. i will be going through much of my stuff and doing an EBAY sale next month. I had planned on doing it this month, but the hurricane, getting all my windows replaced and of course going to work kinda pushed the sale back. But, back to the original topic, I need to do some house (coin) cleaning here also................Rick

I too have been thinking about purging my impulse purchases over the years (mostly US Mint crap) and trying to focus on some of my goals. First I would like to complete a year set for 1909 in MS65 (i know some coins I will have to drop down to a 62 or 63 due to price). I would also like to complete a set of flying eagles cents. I guess I will keep my American Buffalo and First Spouse sets going to keep up with the modern folks!

Seeing some of my key American Silver eagles spot in their holders today, I think I should get rid of all of them now and focus on some serious coins. I think I have about 40 commemorative and 20 ASE's that I really don't have an interest in anymore. But they were the first coins I purchased so I kind of have an attachment to them.

Yes, but for different reasons. Now my measley eight coins may not seem like much of a collection to some, but I'm very focused. image
  • I am doing the same thing. I first tried selling on the BST and now they are going on Ebay. I was way out of focus with about 20 sets going at one time.

It is nice to know I am not alone in my quest to simplify -

Also, to be completely honest, I could not part with all of my "extras" - I kept about a dozen coins with sentimental value that I just couldn't let go.

BTW - Mid Life Crisis - I really like the look of your Saint Patrick - very nice!

I am trying to remain unfocused... I like randomness... adds an element of chaos to my otherwise structured life. Cheers, RickO
