How can he claim payment was never received if you have a paypal receipt? Sounds like maybe he typed in the wrong paypal payment email address when he listed it. That would be the only logical explanation. Does your payment show complete or "unclaimed?" If payment was completed, you will get your money back even if he pulled the funds out of his paypal accnt. He will have a negative balance and they will pursue collections activity if that is the case. Either way you should be fully covered.

The transaction has $2K worth of "buyer protection."

Just file the INR at PayPal. It may take a while, but you will get the money back.

I had a similar situation happen to me on a $400 purchase for an Xbox bundle a few years ago, but Paypal only covered "up to $250". I filed a claim b/c the seller never sent the item. I won the dispute, but Paypal could only recover $10 from the seller's Paypal and bank account. The dispute is still open, but I doubt it will ever be resolved.

that amount would be hard to not keep track.......if he was just looking at his balance.
he gets emails on his payment from buyers..like you.
its a case you can't lose...but the crap u might have to go thru to get it back will be a big pain.
ebay may have cancelled all his auctions.
    best of luck!!!

tarheelsnipe if you paid with a credit card go to your card company. they will credit the purchase and then let paypal try to get the money back from the seller. never make a purchase with a paypal balance.

I didn't. I used paypal balance and assumed the buyer protection clause was air-tight. Learned my lesson. I never let my paypal balance go over $200, and I use my CC for all purchases over $50 now. I've even considered opening a separate checking acct to protect myself as a seller, although I really don't sell enough to follow through with it. Paypal obviously has flaws, but if you're an ebay buyer there won't be an alternative soon. Some alternatives from paypalsucks.com, the only one I've personally used is bidpay....

Most of those sites are gone now and the ones that are left are not Ebay legal. The thing about Paypalsucks.com is 99% of the stories are the users own fault by their own admission. Remember there are hundreds of thousand if not millions of transactions daily through Paypal and most are not a problem. The bad probaly only make up less than 1% of those, but we hear about 90% of the bad ones and rarely about the good ones

Have you called Paypal, you were covered for 250.00. They will try that we could only recover this amount game, but usually if you call them and then call them out on their own policy they will resolve the matter. Its a game they like to play. I had 2 buyer disputes that I recently that Paypal admitted I had won, but they refused to put the money back into my account I called them and within 10 minutes the money was freed up and in my account.
