For a little background, this is a set I assembled from bank roll searches back in 04 maybe 05. After not finding as much silver as I had wanted to find, I decided, what the heck, build a set.

I have kept the set in the bottom of a file drawer and when I pulled it out this morning, I was quite surprised to see these two which are on the very last page of a green, Littleton, Archival Quality, folding book. The informational end page folds over onto these two.

I could guarantee that these two have not been fussed with and I could also guarantee that if they were submitted for grading..................

would get body bagged.

What most caught my eye was the toning pattern which appears very similar on both coins. The 2002-P below these two shows no signs of toning at all.
I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.

  • I seen that color on older Kennedys but nouthing this new, I don't have my sets with me but I think I have few in the late 80's that are toned like that. I would say the are NT by the look just not sure what big brouther would say.

I got a similiar result from a proof kennedy I stuck in my little chamber of secrets. So I say AT all the way.
If I say something in the woods, and my wife isn't around. Am I still wrong?
  • I would lean toward NT since I have a few that look like those do. The clads tone a bit differently than the silvers. I actually have some PCGS 1980 ones that look awesome in some very strange colors.

I have seen newer ones from the '90s on that have the same colors as those do!

The thing that really has me curious is why only the top two inside coins? Why not all four coins that are in the inside bend? Or better yet, why not all the coins on that last inside page?

And the pattern? That 2000-D looks like it has the ghosted image of an automatic handgun on it!

    that's nonsense.

there really isn't anything atypical about that color on clad coins, i see it on Nickels, Ike Dollars, SBA's and the other clad coins with regularity. light blue, gold and pink seem to be common on clad. i assume your guarantee comes from the fact that the coins are only a few years old and your consternation from the fact that only these two coins have toned. believe me, when you can figure out the mechanics of tone so that you can reliably predict which coins tone, what the pattern might look like and how to get which colors where-------------you'll be rich beyond your dreams.

    NT
  • The colors look NT but the pattern looks very strange. I say they could go either way.
