In the 1960's parents were told that they could help secure their child's future by giving them $100

This $1000 face of 90% silver coins was supposed to help secure their future. In the era of the Cold War I guess it made sense to have some hard money.

Do you ever think we'll reach a point within the next few decades where people are advised that that they should put away $1000, or $5000 or $10000 face in clad?

I doubt it, since commercial transactions in cash or coinage are being replaced with credit card and electonic transactions. People will be more used to e-commerce than cash and currency.

However, I would not mind having someone give me selected high grade, MS Clad coins. For example 1969P and 1983P quarters in MS 65 or better. Give me a few hundred dollars of those coins and I will be very happy.

I doubt clad will ever reach the potential of PM's... Cheers, RickO
  • I don't see it. Clad coinage offers nothing more than paper currency does and the paper takes up less space. However the $1,000 face value of silver can be used for bartering in the event of a total collapse of the current money system as it is a precious metal and offers some value besides the numbers stamped on them.
Witty sig line currently under construction. Thank you for your patience.

Diversifying any amount of money into various investments, can help to secure the future. I don't think putting away clad coins will do anything, though, other than taking up a lot of space and probably holding its face value.

Putting away clad? No. At least silver was considered a precious metal even then. Copper...still a base metal.
