Maybe it made her day a little better knowing that someone wanted her dad's autograph.

What does the rest of the letter say? I thought Upton was alive too until I asked around about 2 weeks ago because Baseball Reference still lists him as alive.

it is with much sadness that i write to tell you my dad died march 24 of this year
he moved near me feb 05 when diabeties caused him to lose a couple of toes
previous to that he lived in bishop
we had a great 3+ years together-he lived in a assisted living facility and we watched all kinds
    of sports together on tv
he walked with a walker as he had a bad stroke that affected his right side in 1995
he was a fighter though and took care of most of his own things
he accecepted help with things he couldnt do on his own taking some pride i suppose,

Any chance of this auto being any good?
I live in Michigan, and I've had this card for over 30 years, but thats about all I can tell you. I've never paid much attention to the card because A) I don't know who Johnny Lipon is & B) The double signature of John or Johnny totally ruins the card in my opinion.

We used to call Minnie "Minnie the moocher" because he could be seen around all the bars in Wrigleyville getting drinks bought for him and selling his book. He was a real nice guy and I dont mean to make him sound like a drunk or anything but he always seemed to be there in and around the bars. I believe if my memory is right, he drove a huge caddy with a White Sox hat in the rear window with "Minnie" on his license plates. Minnie is one of the real interesting characters in baseball. I think he used to carry his wallet in his uniform pocket during the games because he didnt trust anyone!

Just thought i would toss that out there!!

Rube nice cards so far. I look forward to seeing how this set progresses.
I am on a budget and I am not afraid to use it!!

    THRASHER

They were hiding behind hay bales,
    They were planting
    in the full moon
They had given all they had
    for something new
But the light of day was on them,
They could see the thrashers coming
    And the water
shone like diamonds in the dew.

And I was just getting up,
hit the road before it's light
Trying to catch an hour on the sun
    When I saw
    those thrashers rolling by,
Looking more than two lanes wide
    I was feelin'
like my day had just begun.

    Where the eagle glides ascending
    There's an ancient river bending
Down the timeless gorge of changes
    Where sleeplessness awaits
    I searched out my companions,
Who were lost in crystal canyons
When the aimless blade of science
    Slashed the pearly gates.

It was then I knew I'd had enough,
Burned my credit card for fuel
Headed out to where the pavement
    turns to sand
    With a one-way ticket
    to the land of truth
And my suitcase in my hand
    How I lost my friends
    I still don't understand.

    They had the best selection,
    They were poisoned with protection
There was nothing that they needed,
    Nothing left to find
They were lost in rock formations
    Or became park bench mutations
    On the sidewalks
    and in the stations
    They were waiting, waiting.

So I got bored and left them there,
They were just deadweight to me
    Better down the road
    without that load
    Brings back the time
when I was eight or nine
    I was watchin' my mama's T.V.,
    It was that great
    Grand Canyon rescue episode.

    Where the vulture glides descending
    On an asphalt highway bending
    Thru libraries and museums,
    galaxies and stars
Down the windy halls of friendship
To the rose clipped by the bullwhip
    The motel of lost companions
Waits with heated pool and bar.

But me I'm not stopping there,
Got my own row left to hoe
    Just another line
    in the field of time
    When the thrasher comes,
I'll be stuck in the sun
    Like the dinosaurs in shrines
But I'll know the time has come
    To give what's mine

Rube, Yogi told me that he got a 1952 Topps card in the mail from some guy named Randy of WV. He told me he did not that card yet, and it would look good in his museumimage

PS. I also said that he was paid $50 just to have it put in his museum. image
