  • Wow what are the odds of pulling both Marino and Elway from only 2 packs?

*edit* I would have loved to join in on a 84 / 86 Topps Football rip but to me basketball cards would go between the spokes of my bike.

All those evidence of trimming does nothing but show how inconsistent card grading can be. Ive never had one come back EOT, but if I pulled a card from a pack and it came back that way, I think I would be PO about it.
IT IS ALWAYS CHEAPER TO NOT SELL ON EBAY
  • From the 5 packs of 86' Football

besides the fisheye it does look very sharp.

  • << <i>Well, you can't ask for more from 2 packs of 84 Topps - but you can sure ask for better centering! Oh well, better than getting none of them.

And to think I let him have those packs from some of mine.image

After you carefully remove it. Use a womens nylon and carefully rub the stain. It should come off pretty easy. It is actualy alot easier to remove a stain from the front then one on the back.
  • Same thing happened to one of the Jordan All-Stars in my scan above. Sucks.

I have used it for gum too. Puting it in the freezer first may actualy work. You want to keep the gum as hard as possible when trying to remove it. I would were a latex glove too. This should keep the moisture from your hand off the gum. The last think you want to do is smear it.

WTH kind of advice was that? Do not use nylons on gum. It will only scratch the surface or remove chunks of paper. Nylons are only used for wax. The only way to remove gum without damaging the card, assuming the gum didn't make the card bubble up, is to freeze it.
  • Got mine today.

Only decent card was an 86 Marino. Probaly will grade an 8 so I will just save it for a bulk submission or on the current special if I get a chance
  • My packs finally arrived today, results were:

84 Football: No Stars nothing of note (Sidestep got my starsimage from the packs I allowed him to get.
86 Football: Same as above with results the same.
89 Score Football: Last pack opened, got some guy named Barry Sandersimage

88-89 Basketball: 3- Scottie Pippen RC's, 1 Michael Jordan Regular Card and 1-Fleer All Star Team.image
    Scans later

Bought 3 1984 Topps football packs.....one pack was a bust....one packed pulled an Elway, the other pack pulled a Fouts....this was my first rip, and I thoroughly enjoyed it....please keep me abreast next time....I would love to participate in another one!
  • Bobby, how was the centering on that Elway?
  • bobbyw8469bobbyw8469 Posts: 7,144 ✭✭✭
Not good at all.....I am going to submit it to PSA under the $6 special because of sentimental reasons with this being my first rip and all, but it is favoring the bottom border...left to right is good...I predict a PSA 9(OC).
  • Look for snow in the back ground also in the windows behind him
  • so whats next?

I really want to do a group rip with 1976-1986 Topps football. That would include 1 pack of 76,77,78,79,80 and so on up to 86. Would anyone be interested in doeing this. I think it would be about $125 per person after the group discount? I love opening up older wax. Modern packs just don't have the same feel or smell when they come from a foil pack as do the older wax packs. Let me know if you would be interested in doing a group football rip for those years. I am sure it will take some time to fill up just because of the price.

Does anyone get a Hardy Nickerson card (#199) out of their 89 Score Football that would probably grade out a 9? If you are interested in selling/trading, please send me a PM.

I recently decided to start a collection of RCs for all players that attended Cal and this is one that I need.

    Thanks,
    Greg
