Does anyone have an estimate on the average cost of producing 1 ounce of gold?

I know it's a complicated estimate, with lots of lil assumptions, but I have seen them discussed before, so someone must be crunching the numbers

    It probably varies greatly from mine to mine. Some of the mines in South Africa have to bring the ore up from two miles below ground which I imagine is quite expensive.
