Anyone care to discuss Roosies?

StoogeStooge Posts: 4,668 ✭✭✭✭✭
Too many MPL threads give me the creeps. Whats going on in the Roosevelt dime world. Anyone care to discuss what the heck is going on?

I'm looking for a few good Roosies!!!! What I'm looking for are mainly nice MS66/67 Rattlers from 1946-1964-D. Also in this year group, I'm looking for any and all Old Green Holders in MS66/67, that are non sample slabs, as there seems to be an ocean full of these.

How about discussing die characteristics of a 1982-No/P dime. Is there a 1982-No/D.

Lets here about it.

PLEASE!!!
Later, Paul.

A set of MS rainbow toned silver Roosies is wonderful. What would be even better would be a separate set of MS rainbow toned clad Roosies to compliement the toned silver.

Has anyone ever seen a rainbow toned MS clad Roosie set (NT of course)? I have not and I bet no one else has either. However, I have seen some MS clad Roosies that have toned up nicely. Very lovely coins are they.

JHF had some real crazy toned clads on TT a few months ago, and they were nice. If you do a JHF search you might find them.

  • I think all the MS Roosie collectors are in hiding. I'm guessing, trying to defuse any attention to the series because of all the recent and upcoming collections for sale. Just a thought. I wish there were more of us who collected proofs, am I the only one here who does? Seems like most of the Roosie collectors are MS fans. As for me I have a dozen or so, but nothing special. But I LOVE reading the posts. So, keep them coming!!! Because you guy are GREAT!!!

I collect them all. If you go to the basic proofs and look under all time sets, you'll see I've already collected a set of proofs at 100% complete from 1965-date. I actually had everything from 1956-date.

Very few rattlers and old green holders exist of the nice coins, as many, many collectors' coins have seen the grading factory for potential upgrade now and, in the process, have lost the old holders.

Later this month some of JHF's extra silver dimes will also start appearing on Teletrade, including some neat ones. The #1 silver set sale (and I am working now on trying to firmly lock it up for FUN in 1/09) will mostly contain toned coins and some of the brilliant high end stuff will find its way over to Teletrade as well as a few finest known silver dups. Also, more low pop clad dimes will also be over on Teletrade as well next month. I get a feeling the clad dimes might finally be "getting hot" and it could ignite prices on some of the Mint State 1960's - 2000's top grade clad and copper material. Look no further than the quiet rise of many Memorial cent prices this month (and some clad dimes for that matter as well). Wondercoin

Larry Sheperd has quite a hoard -- best clad partial set I've ever seen.

The pop for the 54S 67FB went up by 2. I would now consider the 54S a semi key.

"i'll go in time out if stooge goes firstimage"

i think i'll buy a buffalo nickel today as ajia has me thinking sum...sometimes we need to just buy a coin

to add input to this to this requested topic...what's general belief on the 1964 sms as to is it a dime just awaiting to explode in price or interest in them is held back due to lack of availability in general?
post one if you have too...(i was floored at the poor baltimore's final hammer price)
image's below are not my coins
    imageimage

are sms cameo's are held back in price due to "poor availability" or "prices" as the set bonus can be made up with higher grade non cameo at a fraction of the cost (the cheap way up in registry)???
should there be or do you see a future correction in set registry concerning this issue???
    image

lastly are the 1982 no p dimes "flat lined" by a short falling due to mintage known exceeding popularity that bears no sign of future change even though some hoard with other beliefs

  • I would love to discuss Roosies. Here is a whole list of issues to discuss!

    1) I only need (essentially) 1 coin to complete an ms67 and better clad set! 1983-p! Anybody got one?

    2) Time for me to start upgrading to full band coins. Is it really worth spending $1000's for a full band coin when the coin I already have is 95-99% full bands? (and looks identical to the naked eye as fb coins?)

    3) What is up with the market overall? Some dates like 90-d (pop 1/1) were selling for huge amounts, and other dates like 88-d (pop 4/0), 92-p (pop 3/0) were going begging at ridiculously low prices.

    4) Time for me to start collecting silvers. Oh wait, I'm pretty broke, so probably not yet, but someday!

    5) pcgs still doesn't have a non-fb 1965-date registry set up. (shhh. I don't want them to have one even though I'd be #1).

    6) pcgs should weight the fb registry sets with different bonus amounts for fb coins of different dates. I nominate Stooge and Dan to come up with the weighting.

    7) pcgs should only give a 1 point bonus to fb coins in mint sets. I think most mint set collectors want the best overall coin, not necc the best bands. 2 points is such a huge bonus. I think the same thing for fs nickels.

    8) pcgs should take the 1982 no P out of the basic sets. Especially now that they have a with varieties set up. I'm not going to include this coin in my collection no matter what.

No, I have an FB but it's not for sale.

Only you can decide that. If you wanted your clads in FB you should have started collecting them in FB.

    3) What is up with the market overall? Some dates like 90-d (pop 1/1) were selling for huge amounts, and other dates like 88-d (pop 4/0), 92-p (pop 3/0) were going begging at ridiculously low prices
Watch the registry sets for the 90-D. I don't think you will see it in a Roosie registry set. These dimes with FB are huge in the mint sets.

    4) Time for me to start collecting silvers. Oh wait, I'm pretty broke, so probably not yet, but someday!
Non-FB Silvers in 66 & 67 are pretty inexpensive, relatively easy to locate and fun to collect

    5) pcgs still doesn't have a non-fb 1965-date registry set up. (shhh. I don't want them to have one even though I'd be #1).
    Mums the word.....

    6) pcgs should weight the fb registry sets with different bonus amounts for fb coins of different dates. I nominate Stooge and Dan to come up with the weighting.
Wondercoin and I tried to work on this several years ago. PCGS was set on 2 bonus points and that was that.

    7) pcgs should only give a 1 point bonus to fb coins in mint sets. I think most mint set collectors want the best overall coin, not necc the best bands. 2 points is such a huge bonus. I think the same thing for fs nickels.
Why then give any bonus points in mint sets. I say leave it alone.

    8) pcgs should take the 1982 no P out of the basic sets. Especially now that they have a with varieties set up. I'm not going to include this coin in my collection no matter what.
    I agree

WOW!!!! Is it the 64fb/or JHF's 66fb??? I know there are only three, and Paul has the 65FB.

<< <i>6) pcgs should weight the fb registry sets with different bonus amounts for fb coins of different dates. I nominate Stooge and Dan to come up with the weighting. >>

<< <i>Wondercoin and I tried to work on this several years ago. PCGS was set on 2 bonus points and that was that. >>

Just off the top of my head.. The 69 should have a weight of 3, more so than some of the coins that carry a 3 now. The 1983-D should be a 2 instead of the 1. The 83-D is tough in anything above 66, and is the only non mint set year coins to carry the weight of 1. It's tougher than the 75 in FB While the 83-D has 12 in 67 w/o FB and the 75 has 8 in 67 w/o FB does that earn it a weight of 3 over the 83-D,s 1?

<< <i>8) pcgs should take the 1982 no P out of the basic sets. Especially now that they have a with varieties set up. I'm not going to include this coin in my collection no matter what. >>

    << <i>I agree >>

I agree 100%, and still say the basic set SHOULD NOT CONTAIN SF COINS.

My (simple) answer - the 90-D simply signals the start of things to come. Pop 1, 2 or 3 FB pop top dimes should perform excellently the remainder of the year. JHF has and will continue to sell off these coins and both dime collectors and mint set collectors will have a chance to fill some very tough holes. Those who picked up pop 3 or 4 dimes on the cheap in the past year should really love their purchases when all the dust settles after most of JHF's dimes are disposed of. Just my 2 cents. Wondercoin

I think there are probably tons of these hidden somewhere. I just a short period of time I found 9 Rattlers in MS66 and a couple I would say have a shot at 7FB. Having said that I do not believe that I can assemble an MS66/67 set of Rattlers. I would like to think I could try.

Nick, you have an MS67FB 1983-P?

BTW, did anyone here notice that my 1970 MS64FB (1/0) is now an undergrade coin. YES, someone made a 1970 MS65FB...Now, which one of you made this coin? image

  • Welcome to the message board erwindoc!

It has always been, and will always be, my intention to pick a higher grade coin over a fb coin, so the fb "upgrades" I need are ms67fb coins from the 70's, or ms68fb coins from 1984-date, and all of them are single digit pops! And most of them I've never seen for sale before. I'm not sure yet though if I'll be able to afford a single JHF fb dime.

It's not my style to collect cheap silvers (or any cheap coins)! When I start collecting silvers it's all out! I'll probably go for a 67fb set as unlike the clads, that set may be doable. I still may buy a ms68 here and there over a 67fb!

I guess I'm never going to have a #1 mint set just because I choose a higher grade, say an ms67, over a 66fb. The reason "These dimes with FB are huge in the mint sets" is because of the 2 point bonus. I think this is a bit of an issue of people colleting what pcgs tells them to collect, and that may or may not be what they would collect naturally.
