I have two simple questions for every fellow forum member???

1.) Why do you like coins?

2.) Why do you collect coins?

I don't think a question can get any simpler than these. But, are the answers just as simple???image

    1. I was raised around them. Beyond that, they're pieces of history you can touch and I love that. Many are also very beautiful.
    2. I collect coins because of the reasons mentioned above but also because they are often a good investment and store of value. I know that's not important to every forum member, but it's important to me.

    1) I think they are tangible pieces of history and are just plain neat. As far as coins vs. paper money, metal is always better to me.

    2) I like looking at them and wondering where all they've been and who have handled them, and also a good store of wealth.

1.) Why do you like coins?...................Because regardless of the current market, they ALWAYS have value

2.) Why do you collect coins?..............Unlike other things that can be collected, they will ALWAYS have value.

1- As suggested by others, for their historical value and to a lesser extent for their artistic value.

2- I have always collected something, from trading cards to memorabilia and now coins. (Coins have so far been the most interesting and profitable.image)

    Good questions.

    1) It's mostly about the artistry and historical significance for me.

    2) Beyond the pleasure of just owning and looking at them, it's fun to put together sets. It's also fun to

I like history, art and design and what has been reduced from history, art and design onto small round planchets and/or flans that have been accepted as means to satisfy debts, create commerce among people and nations to sustain civilization.

Some art and design reflected on coinage is better than others... but in the matter of taste, there is really no dispute.

Have fun with coins and if you are not having fun, there are other things to collect that can be fun. Life is short so search for what you like and don't loose the passion to undertake the challenge of the search... whatever the search... coins, stamps or whatever...

Answer 1- They're pretty and cool to think where some of old circulated coins have been and with what kind of character.
Answer 2- What better thing is there to collect than money?

My ancestors, on my father's side, arrived at Jamestown in the early 17th century. On my mother's side, in New England, in the early 18th century. As a kid I remember reading about lives in those days, the suffering and defeat, harsh winters and disease. Children dying young. Families sometimes reusing given names of dead offspring to honor them (which made working the family tree challenging).

In the late '50's my father gave me a few well circulated silver three cent pieces and half dimes. They were from my grandmother's small estate. I never knew her. She was born in the late 1860's. I think that was when I first felt a connection to coins.

Think...how many objects have your held in your hands that belonged to those who lived very long ago? Maybe old, worn coins weren't special like family heirlooms. They changed hands often and never really "belonged" to a family. But old coins are fascinating to me because of the history, imagining whose hands managed these coins. And if they are pristine and uncirculated, well then they represent the period. Old or new, coins say a lot. How can you not love them?

I agree with most reasons already given. My only contribution is that my coin horde of mostly common stuff somehow gives me an illusion of wealth--of financial well-being. I once read the research outcome that men take a sense of well-being from how many pairs of socks they have in their drawer. Coins do it for me, my socks get holes...
