Set Registry doesn't include manager and post playing days cards? Why?

I collect a lot of sets for my favorite players. I've been buying manager cards and various post-playing days cards. I recently found out that those cards aren't included in the set registry. Why is that? Is there a way that will change?

cause people who collect Mickey Mantle master registry sets don't want the several thousand modern cards to buy
  • That's certainly a good reason for modern insert cards. I could see that for Mantle. But what about guys who had managerial careers like Berra? I collect his manager cards. Do you think PSA would make acceptions for certain players and leave others out?

I don't think PSA would have time to make differentation or want to do so. I'm sure they would be all for creating sets for all cards of any player if enough were interested.

I think your best bet is the sets that you create and define yourself. Something like a Joe Torre playing days and managerial card set could be kinda cool.

    Mickey Mantle was a manager?

  • I imagine there is some logic in not including manager cards to "player sets" - although if I collected say, Pete Rose, I would likely have no problem with such cards being included.
Collecting PSA graded Steve Young, Marcus Allen, Bret Saberhagen and 1980s Topps Cards.
Raw: Tony Gonzalez (low #'d cards, and especially 1/1's) and Steve Young.
  • That's what I'm saying. Why not Pete Rose, Alan Trammell etc.

Try to read the whole post before trying to make a wise crack, directly after saying manager cards he clearly mentioned various post-playing day cards.
  • I did try to read the whole post. Guess I just wasn't successful

While current and former players have countless cards made every year now, it doesn't mean Eddie Mathews and Ted Williams did when they were managers. If various post-playing days cards were included it wouldn't have to be thousands of them

Anyways, the correct answer was already given in the first reply

drewsef's right. Cards for guys like Mantle and (especially) Nolan Ryan, would drown even the most dedicated collectors.

Having said that, I think regular issue set manager cards are a different thing altogether. He's also right about the idea of just doing an informal set for guys like Torre, Berra or Frank Robinson. I don't know anyone who would bother to have a player set of guys like Gil Hodges or Ted Williams and not go after their managerial cards.

Outstanding Lou-Tram avatar, by the way. They should each be in the HOF.
