Man, how many '77 OPC Reggie Jacksons came from that box?? It seems like everyone is getting one! Mine was way OC though.
  • Anyone who pulls a 77 OPC that is even close to being centered needs to submit it. I just looked at some PSA 9's on eBay that made me go back and take a second look. Look at the centering on this Sparky Lyle PSA 9

I agree. I'm submitting the 5 "centered" OPCs from my scan. They're all commons, but I'm sending them in anyway.
  • I found a few somewhat centered commons that are low pop 9's and no 10's, Rich Hebner and Jim Barr to name a few. Plus, the Pete Rose I pulled looks like a 10 compared to the PSA 9 that just ended on eBay.
  • jswietonjswieton Posts: 2,870 ✭✭✭
does anyone have a link to a checklist for the 77 opc? I have still not opened my pack yet.
  • jeffcbayjeffcbay Posts: 8,951 ✭✭✭✭
Of the 5 I'm subbing, they are all low pop commons, and 1 or 2 have never been graded by PSA.
  • The Sutton I pulled should be a 10. The Randolph is going because it is at least an 8 possible 9. These are the only other 2 of the OPCs that I think are worth trying.

The spot on Campaneris is a spot on my scanner just checked. Anyone got a pop report on those 2? I let my membership lapse need to renew in the next week or so

That's a gorgeous '77 OPC Ryan. The last PSA 9 went over $400, but the top left corner look slike it will prevent it from being a 9.

Here are my best '77 OPC from 2 packs. I probably won't submit the Rivers, but the other 3 (along with a OC Reggie) are going in.

Some more highlights from the rip:

78 Topps Nolan Ryan RB - Perfect centering to go with a nicely dinged top right corner. Such is life.

    image

78 topps Palmer and Baker - If PSA 8's even sold for the grading fee, I'd send the Palmer in. But as I already have a good looking PSA 9, probably not.

    image

79 topps charlie moore - the ONLY centered card out of 2 packs of 79 topps. A lot of them had a dent on the right side as well.

    image

83 donruss - a trio of gorgeous, centered cards. LSU, I've got 4 of these going in (Stargell from last page). get ready for some 10's

    image

84 fleer Morgan and Dawson - both centered, great corners. But they both have a faded look to them compared to most of the 84 fleer i opened. like they were left out in the sun too long. The Morgan also has a nice scratch on the surface.

    image

84 fleer dempsey and 84 topps brett - the brett card is great except for the print smear on the bottom left. the dempsey is for the Oriole fans to remember the Magic.

    image

84 donruss - 3 sharp, submittable cards (and some poultry)

  • Not sure if I mentioned it or not, but if any one sends in any 1983 Donruss and get a 10 please PM me if you are planning on selling. I am working on a complete set in PSA 10 only. Wish I had looked at the pop report before deciding to do it. Oh well, I am in no hurry to finish.

I have a factory set I cracked and put in a binder back in 83, if I get a chance I'll view it for 10 canidates.
  • Good Day,
Got mine last night and here is the Cream from Mine!!!!

Yeah that's right, absolutely Nothing and I do mean nothing, I have stack of 150+ Commons, and any commons that would be worth submitting like the 78's or 79's are so OC as to be junk.
I would have to say that out of the last 10 Rips I've done this is Heads and Shoulders above all else as unbelievable!!!

For anyone that is sending in 1977 OPC baseball cards...
On the back side of the card, check the centering. If there is any green
from the backside of another card, it will get a (MC)

    EXAMPLE...

I'm probably going to submit these two on my next bulk sub. The Jackie Brown is just a touch narrow. Does PSA give a little leeway on the OPC's for this like they do the rough edges, or will I see Minimum Size Requirement?

I opened my pack of OPC and didn't get much. The centering was really bad too. Is there anything worth sending in for grading? I have to admit, it was a fun pack to open. I think if you had the $ if would be a pretty sweet box to open.

The Sunberg looks very nice...and a low pop 9 or 10 can pretty much pay for the whole rip.
Collecting PSA graded Steve Young, Marcus Allen, Bret Saberhagen and 1980s Topps Cards.
Raw: Tony Gonzalez (low #'d cards, and especially 1/1's) and Steve Young.
  • I want to know where did all the other cards go? We had 36 lots and only about 10 have been posted. Granted I bought two and do not intend to open one, with the exception of the 84 Donruss. I think I opened it in my sleep. I have a weakness for 84 Donruss.

I've been wondering the same thing... My last box of '80 Topps yielded me two Rickeys (8 & 9). I wanna see more! The '77 Ryans from this rip are sweet!

I also bought a pack of 77 Topps. Notice I didn't scan any of thoseimage

Overall, 81 Topps and Donruss, 84 Topps had the worst quality cards. One of the 81 Topps cards had wax on both the front and backimage

Just opened my packs and got nothing much worth mentioning. I did get one 77 OPC that may be a 10 and a couple that could be 9s. The possible 10 is the Stolen Base Leaders card of Bill Smith & Davey Lopes, card #4. What's the POP report on this card?
    Thanks, James

The Concepcion is off T/B it will probably go 9oc. The bumbry, Kranpool, and Mercer, should all grade 9. The slight tilt should not hurt.

Morgan has a shot at 8. I think the Rose will get 9oc.

I still have 80, 81, 82, 83, and 84 Topps to rip. Saving those for tomorrow.

I didn't get anything all that great. The Morgan looks super, but the back is miscut (way off-center). The Carter was a nice pull, but it looks whack.

The color on the Garvey was light years better than anything else in the pack. Don't know if it's the card itself, or if this one was printed brighter. ??

The Luzinski is absolutely gorgeous. I know he's not a great player, but for a '79 Topps card, the centering, corners, and color are pretty good.
