Bruce, That is quite an aray of Registry Catagories! It sounds more like we could gleam advice from you rather than the other way around!

    Bruce welcome!

I find myself lacking in the areas you pursue...I have no proof Buffs, Walkers, or 3 cent pieces. I am looking for nice MS63/64 type examples of 3CN & 3CS! Let me know if you upgrade any of these and need to sell your old ones.

Some beautiful sets! The ms 3CN are tough as you know and you've done a nice job of finding some of the best. I met Ron Iskowitz at FUN and he was telling me about your proof 3CN set --awesome.

    Welcome to the forum.

Let me assure you folks that Bruce has the most amazing collection of Three Cent Nickle proofs known to man or beast--and this from one who has spent many months drooling on the outside of his window. The man is renowned among 3CN proof folks!

Bruce, PM me with any special wants or needs. Maybe we can work out a trade for one of your you-know -whats!!

    Hi Bruce:

Welcome to the Registry Board. You certainly have some great sets. I am a collector of proof Mercury Dimes myself. I am looking for a brilliant 37 in PR67. If you have that one in dup and are looking to sell, please shoot me a PM.

    Cheers

Welcome Bruce. I just was given my first 3CN on Sunday by my aunt for cataloging her collection (she is 87) and I am quite taken by it. Of course it is nothing like your proofs, but I can see why you were so attracted to them. I may start a 3CN collection when I finish up my Mercury No Bands (if that ever happens)

    Deepcoin:

If you decide to collect 3CN, you'll see me there, too. I have a preference for the MS 3CNs over the proofs--they are actually significantly rarer and probably a LOT more difficult to complete in top grades. Currently I am in awe of Bruce Scher's MS 3CN collection; save for what I believe are the two most difficult dates (1883 & 1884) his set lacks only one other coin. And, all the coins are in super high grades. Bill Walser's set also is no slouch! It will be fun to see which of these sets winds up with the 1883 or 1884 first. And, I wonder where these coins...

Anyway, my set is a few steps down...well, let's be honest, it's a lot of steps down... But, look at the bright side: As soon as you register even 1 coin, you're in fourth palce on the current list! Register a coin and then we'll go raze the other Merc collectors about how easy it is to get on the front page of the registry sets!

  • Bruce, Welcome, you seem like a good prospect for the complete type set.
It sure improves one's knowledge of all U.S. coins. By the way, I know
where the finest 1883 3 cent CN (MS66) resides.

I think high grade mint state 3CNs are one of the best numismatic buys around. I debated long and hard between working on a 3CN set and a mint state Liberty Nickel set (which I also think are great values). Finally decided on the Libs because I prefer a larger coin, and ultimately I think they will make the main stream, along side the other Barber coins (Yes, Lib nickels are in fact Barbers). I was actually offered a complete set of 3CNs (at a nice price) which could still be available. If anyone cares, send me a PM and I'll try to remember who offered them. Otherwise good luck to all who are working on this wonderful series.

I have just the one coin, XF-40 probably. I may go after a set that is circulated as my primary coin funds are all Mercury oriented now. The 3CN are really a beautiful coin when you look at them. The III on the reverse is almost analagous to the bands on the Mercury.
