Answer Correctly, Receive a Gift***Recipient: JackWESQ***

The first person to post the correct answer to the following question will receive a neato sports cards surprise gift.
Who is the only major leaguer, excluding active players, with a minimum of 2000 career at-bats whose batting average decreased every season of his career after year one? For example, .300 in year 1, .295 in 2, .285 in 3, and so on.
Disclaimer: At least I believe the player in question is the only one to have accomplished this feat. If it turns out that there were others, the first correct respose will earn the gift.

So as not to unnecessarily pad my posts, I shall, in most instances, not respond to incorrect answers. But honestly, I just don't like to type.

<< <i>Gotta be one of the game's greats, right? And I feel like catcher's deteriorate more than other positions. I'll say Johnny Bench. >>
Vito, incorrect. I do like the fact that you are applying logic, but the logic is a bit backward. No offense intended, just trying to steer you in the right direction.

Nope, not Bob Gibson...neither one of them!
Lawnmowerman, I will give a hint, but only because you're a fellow Cowboy fan.
Hint: He played for 7 seasons, all for the same team and all in the same decade. He was not a pitcher and he played sometime after 1950.

Pettis' BA did decline each of his final 4 seasons, but it was the typical roller coaster over the 8 prior years.
Remember the hints: Played 7 seasons all with the same team and in the same decade, sometime after 1950.
Edit: I'll narrow the time frame just a bit. He played between 1950 and 1989.

DISCO!!! You hit it on the head. Jack, I must ask, how did you know the answer?
I figured enough time had passed so I thought I chime in with a response.
As for how I located the answer, the Baseball Reference Play Index is a wonderful thing. More so if you know how to use it for mundane things like locating answers to obscure trivia questions.
