Well it looks like Beckett killed their message boards today

I know that some here have to at least spent some time on Beckett's message boards.
From the looks of it they launched a new site and did away with the message boards, instead it is more of an ecommerce site where there is a charge for everything (including trading) and the discussion section is all that is left of the message boards.
Pretty typical of Beckett if you ask me.

<< <i>Did they do away with their registry altogether?! >>
no it still exists, if you have anything in there it will probably be a while before it transfers over, same with mycollections.

<< <i>I always thought the mycollections tab on there was stupid. Who cares what book value is for all your commons? You're never coming close to realizing those prices. >>
I actually used the mycollections to help catalog sets and player sets, so I am glad that it will carry over. Main reason I ever use Beckett.

I agree. A lot to be said for a simple message board like this one.

Simplicity has advantages. Being able to navigate between forums without complication is a big plus.
Beckett had a good board over there in that you could easily move from forum to forum. They also had a pretty good archive in the sense that a person could use the archives to find useful information. I'm not sure if they even kept the old archives. Not a fan of the changes at all.

<< <i>No way BRAH! That board was kickin'. Saw a lot of SICK cards and made a lot of SWEET dealios in that hizzle. Anybody here collect 5 color patches? >>
you encompassed in your comment what I hate most about guys who only collect new stuff. I cannot stand the use of terms "sick" and "sweet" and the obsessions with mulicolor patches. it is like they are collecting carpet.
<< <i>That new format is going to weed out alot the computer illiterate users and the traders. >>
Great! They're all gonna end up here.

true. that there is still a message board. just watered down and crappy.
False about free trading as their is a $6 fee per month to access it and you have to a credit card linked to it.

and as to their message boards being killed, I did not mean it literally. Just read this post by a guy that has been a member for 10 years +
Congratulations Beckett!!
Congratulations Beckett!!
You have finally driven me away from Beckett.com. I have been a Beckett.com member for almost 11 years. 10 years, 9 months, and 4 days to be exact.
I hated the last big change, and the last year or so I have not posted much. All the good old guys have been gone for some time, and ever since Beckett started to raise prices, and provide less content I have been scarce. But almost everyday, sometimes a few times a day I would go on the box break boards to check out what has been pulled. Or look at the other boards to see what is going on.
I considered this site to be a useful tool, but now it is a mess. I can't find anything, I can't look at a price guide like I used to, and nothing makes sense.
I guess the good old days of providing something that people liked and could use for a fair price is gone. Pay to trade, are you freaking kidding me!!! Come one Beckett, how long till you charge just to view this site.
The magazine is a joke, this new site sucks, and I don't think you care. I think that you are trying to recoup money you have lost since I am guessing that many people have canceled their subscriptions since the monthly mags went away. Beckett and Beckett.com used to be the industry leaders in my opinion, and now you are just like everyone else, gouging every chance you get and making it difficult to use your product.
I would like to thank you Beckett for all the hours of entertainment I did receive over the past 10+ years on this site. It was never for free, as I have subscribed to the mag or online price guides (often both at the same time) since 1995. But that is now over too, and I will miss all the great times I had on these boards.
I guess this is a good thing. I have mostly gotten out of collecting the last 7 months, and this is the final motivation I need to quit for good, so thank you Beckett for ending my hobby of the last 15 years.

What that Beckett user said is very true^^. Beckett just took themselves down another notch with these " so-called improvements", in my opinion.
I just went over and viewed their new site, and it's garbage, just like their monthly magazine has become. There was a time when I enjoyed reading the Beckett baseball card monthly from around 1984-2007, before this "great change" took over in 2008. Maybe if they lose enough money, they will get a clue. Bigger is not always better. Sometimes a simple thing is best. They blew it.
I guess the kids of this next generation are not as lucky as some of us were. I remember riding my bike to the drug store to get a Beckett baseball card monthly, and a few packs of cards during the summer months. If I had $10-$15 from lawn mowing to take with me, I could be in hog heaven. I could get a Beckett, numerous packs of cards, and have enough left over for a soda and hot dog at the soda fountain in the back of the drug store. Oh, the good old days..

Since I collect a mix of vintage and modern, I would venture over there to see some modern product being opened and stuff of that nature, while commenting every now and then. About 90% of the topics are based on "Prospecting", how their "hot" prospects did, how much they ripped someone off, and what some mediocre player's chances are at the HOF.
Memorable beckett moments for me.
I started a thread asking if anyone collected vintage and did in fact receive a few guys that had some really nice vintage Red Sox Collections and one guy with a '59 topps set. However, a few bozos then posted JERSEY CARDS of guys like Ted Williams, Ty Cobb, etc. Neat cards, but not exactly vintage
Another was when some guy was showing off his prospect "stash". It was something like 50 different auto rookie cards of the guy. Someone asked how much he had into the cards. Owner replied with something like $1000. I made a comment about how he obviously must really feel good about this guys chances at the bigs, etc. and that I could've bought a really nice mix of vintage or at least Super star modern cards for that price tag. Let's just say I was blasted with comments like "who cares about vintage"....blah...blah...blah.
Good times, but i'm gonna miss the site since it seemed to be a place where Teknobailey's and the GAI Ruth guy's of the world congregate.
