I haven't seen a "hypothetical" in a while...........

So I'll pose this one.............

You're offered 2 coins..............

one is a 20XX Widget in MS69 (modern era coinage).............

one is an 18XX ultra rarity in G4 (around 50 known in all grades).................

They are priced at the same level...................

Which gets your more serious atention ?????????

Depends, I'm not a big fan of of any coin in G-4 condition but I would take it over a modern MS/PR 69 unless it was one of the UHR "Saints" coming out next year, In that case I would be all over the saint.

With any 20XX widget there is alwayse a good chance that the POP could go up due to more submissions. That would be a lot less likely with a 18XX ultra rarity making it IMHO a lot better buy!

The G4 and then trade for Common pieces in quantity. I think this is the only logical answer, but I am not sure... Respectfully, John Curlis

Of course, I'd choose the 18XX ultra rarity in G4...easy decision.

It would have to depend on the actual coins under consideration. If the MS69 was an AGE and the G04 was some early NJ copper with some obscure variety, I'd take the MS69 since it would be far easier to sell or trade for coins that I really want. Anyone agree or disagree? Am I way off base in my logic?

    I agree.

Also, I'm not sure you would even find an "ultra rarity ... with only 50 known" in a desirable series for the price of a common MS69 widget. So that would restrict you to a more esoteric choice in the classic coin.

No doubt about it the 18XX rarity every day of the week. Any other answer would be just dumb.

I will go counter trend and take the 20XX (e.g. Cheerios Sac) in MS69 over a G4 whatchamacallit!
