Welcome to the boards. I was the original poster who started this thread.
I just have a quick question. Prior to submitting your bid/sending payment, did you see that the Mantle sold at a Andy Madec auction here on May 29, 2008 for $16,412.80?
Of course, I don't know who the high bidder was and, as such, it could have been djwholesale2008. But then, it would have been odd for him to have purchased the card for ~$16,000.00 and then list it on ebay with a Buy It Now price of $12,500.00 and then even accept an offer of $9,500.00 just a couple of months later.
<< <i>There was no arrogance or anger towards POPPA J because there was NO EMAIL. I guess he's just trying to make himself feel good. I think everyone appreciates a good deal, so for anyone to have feelings towards me for possibly get that card for that price, that is just jeolousy driven. If the card were real, that was the price and an individual could afford it, everyone on this thread would make the same deal. If they say different , then they are either lying or two shy of a six pack. Just the way I see it. Everyone is entitled to their opinion and I can respect that, but I can't respect people lying about an email that never occurred. >>
Did you look in your eBay messages?
You and I both know that you did indeed receive a warning email from me.
Does this look familiar? "Dear jaxcanman,
The seller does not have this card in hand. He copied the picture from the Andy Madec website: http://andymadec.com/LotDetail2.aspx?lotid=1952. Please don't pay until he proves he has it. Why would someone not allow someone to pick up an expensive card in person? That is usually preferred. Reply if you have any questions."
I have absolutely no reason to lie, nor am I trying to make myself feel good (whatever that means). I was just trying to help you avoid the mistake you made.
Poppa J , I did receive your email. WHAT I said was I didn't respond to you. With arrogance or anger. I didn't respond at all. YOU are the one who said I responded back to you rudely. That is not true.
"Wow! After I took the time to try to help the buyer, jaxcanman, by sending him the seller's reply to an email that I sent him, jaxcanman sends me a nasty note telling me to mind my own business and that he's not stupid."
You wrote THIS not me. Who is lying. I never emailed you. I make my own decisions. Just because you offered advice, what makes you think I would or should follow it, or anyone's for that matter. I think we are all adults here and make our own decisions in this world based on risk, etc. Do you follow all the advice you get. Your nasty note story is just that a story.....good for you.
<< <i>"So while there is a risk I may surrive being run over by a truck there is no way I would want to take that risk.
While you may be perfectly fine in taking a 9k uneducated risk there are quite a few people (even with that kind of money) that would not.
And business risks are a lot different then "Hobby" risks. "
Sorry bro, that is called personal opinion... >>
No a business risk pertains to a business which in some/most instances may recoup losses of "bad risks". A hobby is usually an "out of pocket" thing. You usually have no backing to cover that risk. A hobby you are not looking to make or turn over money, you are doing it for the sheer enjoyment of the time spent doing something you like.
It seems to me that a great deal of the risk was eliminated when Jax decided to pay with a credit card AND it sounds like he has connections in DC that would help him recoup his losses if and when the deal went sour.
If you're absolutely certain that you can get your money back if it is a scam and there's a chance you could make a quick profit of 30-50% if it's not, then I'd go for it too.
Personally, I'm just never that certain that I could get my money back from the credit card company.
Thanks Steve. I will, Sometimes it takes a few weeks to a couple of months. It was almost worth it just for the challenge. Puma shoes will be an easy kill.
I'm fairly certain this was an honest mistake. Djaholeseller has a 4.8 in Item as described. This would not be possible if he did not have the item as described. I will put him on my favorite sellers list.
So, a mix up in address or shipping is becoming the code for "my scam did not work this time"
BRAVO
Jax, please give us an update to the case and share with us any advice of fighting fraud.

In this economy, I did not think that lower than usual prices would be red flags necessarily. People are selling things cheaper than before and I would have assumed the Mantle being just a function of the economy.

PoppaJ
(ok that was just gross but I had to)
Poppa I think Jax is saying he never emailed you back.
In any event he took a gamble and lost, (somewhat) by paying with a CC he covered his arse.
Keep us informed if and when you get this dirtbag.

Or are you refering to me being hit by a truck?

MONEY WAS REFUNDED. CARD WAS SENT TO WRONG ADDRESS. MIX UP IN SHIPMENT
Jaxcanman ... can you comment. Did you in fact get your money back.
... and I'm sure that the card was misdelivered.
