Read Mark Goodmans book once through quick and....

... I still have much much to learn. image However I just couldn't resist trying out a couple things in his book and the results (while not close to his level) astound me.

I've taken dozens and dozens of pics of these two commems trying to capture what the coins look like in hand and could never do it. With a few of Marks tips the result now looks very much like what the coins do in hand... especially the Connecticut. I'd almost given up on taking pics of it because they NEVER looked right. The Oregon has some bright spots I'll need to work on but at least I'm starting to see some of the color.

Consider this an unsolicited plug for Mark Goodman's book. Mine arrived today. Thanks Mark.

  • Nice pics! I am afraid that if I buy Mark's book I will then not be able to resist shelling out the cash for a decent camera!

Tell me about it. I'm already looking at microscopes and don't even have the book.

Believe me. You can get decent pics with a $25 used point and shoot off of e-bay.

    Thanks all...

BTW my camera is a cheap... less than $150 (about 4 years ago) point and shoot Olympus 3.2 Mega-Pixel. Plus a very inexpensive ($10) mini tripod.

How would you describe Mark's book? Is it an easy read, even for us photographically-challenged types?

I got mine yesterday and it is an easy read. He shows how easy the 'point & shoot' cameras are in taking shots of coins. I haven't finished it yet, but so far, I do recommend it. He gives much credit to this forum so I say, "support our members" and learn. Thanks, Mark.

I like the way the book is formatted into basic and advanced stuff within the various topics. The basic parts are easy for me to understand. I really like the pictures that show the setups and what is going on. The wealth of knowledge contained on how to shoot different coins is great.

If you're going to take pics of coins I don't think you can buy a better guide. I'm not sure there is even another one out there anyway.
  • the local coin suppy shop will have his next week ... i cant wait to have some real nice pictures of my buffalos

  • Just ordered my copy. $20.67. Money well spent. Mark's guides have helped me along the way and I am certain this book will bring out the luster in my coin photography.

    Great Pics!

I've been fairly busy and am only half way through it, but I agree with everyone else, great book, great tips, and I can't wait to put them to use myself. imageimageimage
