Wow, this got a star.

Note that I am in no way judging the seller, only the star designation.
In their newer holders I've seen plenty of ho hum stuff with a star, but this takes the cake.

surprised.
<< <i>Speaking of taking the cake... I'd rather have a slice of cake then own that coin!
MMmm.. cake!!
I'm off to the cake store.
<< <i>Not a bad looking coin...but certainly not even close to having "superior" eye appeal! >>

The main character in this story essentially defrauds a whole society over that star. Everyone ends up happy, even the Sneetches. Penniless, but happy knowing that stars matter not.
I love the expressions.

and the coin has very good eye appeal
but the photo doesn't
There's enough in the photo to make me wonder if they simply have to put out a star once in a while regardless of what comes in.

<< <i>I don't know how anyone can decide if that coin does/doesn't have exeptional eye appeal for the grade, by that photo alone. >>
Some people would piss at a free beer party, thus their views on a coin that they haven't seen in hand.
I don't have a problem with the idea of star coins....just the consistancy.
<< <i>I don't believe that coin is star worthy either....especially both of these NGC graded coins I own did not receive the designation?

A large percentage were stacked in vaults for eons and never even fulfilled
their intention. I'm not saying toned uncs. aren't neat, just that that series
is an anomaly. No other series has so dominated the market with such a slim
claim to fame. We'd all be better off if a more widely circulated coin was held
up as the end-all of numismatics. Like Barber dimes or standing quarters. Be
a lot less pissing and moaning about the difference between MS65 and MS66
coins, dont'cha think?

I know what you mean but think all grades above 65 (especially the MS65 of yesterday) on any series are somewhat subjective, so the bickering will continue...
...
Really, I dunno about the whole star idea in the first place. I'm kind of ambivalent about it.
I'd rather assign my own stars.
How apt.
No toning going on. It's not a cameo; I did not omit part of the grade designation.
I'm not certain why there is a star on it. Is it a really ULTRA SWEET 67? Can anyone enlighten me?
Hm.
Is it a really incredible strike for this year? I am not terribly versed in Kennedy nuances.
<< <i>It's unfortunate that Morgans continue to set the standard as to eye appeal.

An intelligent, concise, and accurate assessment of the coin market today, and Morgans' place in that market. Almost poetic.
The Morgans do, for whatever reason, hit me and obviously many other collectors on strictly an emotional level.
As for being able to articulate the reason, I might as well tell you how chocolate tastes. It like it (and Morgans) but I can't logically explain it.
As for the OT, I don't think it is possible to really judge a coin by the picture. BTW, as couldboyhowdy states, could any other coin stir the passions that this Morgan has? JMHO.
What I mean is would the coin get a sticker? What if it was a 64 plain, no star, then would it get a sticker? Stickers mean high end for the grade, but stars mean extra eye appeal. So how does that work?
