WHY? WHY? WHY? EBAY Best Offer ???

Why do some EBAY sellers offer BEST OFFER with their BUY IT NOW, but when you make a BEST OFFER they just deline it without making a counteroffer?

For example, this morning I put a $12 offer on a $20 card. The seller declined without making a comment. Why would he not counter offerwhat he wanted to get for the card? If he wasn't going to take less than $20 why offer BEST OFFER?

It just doesn't make sense to me!!

  • Best Offers can bet set to Automatically reject a low Best Offer with out a counter offer.

yup, there is an option to automatically reject them , he probably has it set at 15 or something so you wouldn't get a counter offer. they do not offer an automatic reject and counter offer option
  • this was not an auto-reject....i am familiar with those when you get the instant response....these were just denied later with no counter...does not make any sense, unless they do not want to sell their csards...

You have 2 offers left ... why not offer more instead of waiting for him to counteroffer?

Have you tried offering $15 or $16???

    Maybe he hates lowballers?

Maybe he's waiting for offers from others until he makes a counteroffer?

    Maybe he's offline!

We could guess all day long, but only 1 person knows your answer .... why not contact him?

If that $20 card means that much to you, why not just make a counteroffer for $18?

You did ask for 40% discount and could have annoyed the seller. I agree with others try sending an offer for $16 and I bet you'll get the card... if not just move on.

As a seller that uses BIN with BO, my magic number is usually an offer of 75% and above.

I use BIN and BO on occasion I have used both auto decline and my choice .I would rather look at all offers personally and make my own decisions.I never use auto decline any longer.

  • that being said to the last 2 posters, if you have something listed for $20 and get an offer of $12, would you just decline it or send a counter? That is assuming you are taking BEST OFFERS...

I would absolutely counter your $12 with $18 and the thought of settling at $16.

I would use a counter offer.

  • thanks guys...conversation over..i just wanted to make sure i wasn't going crazy!
  • Agree with the other posters.

From the buyers perspective, I've found that most people who sell using Best Offer are not motivated sellers. They might be willing to sell at a 10-20% discount to the BIN price, but will reject (either automatically or by choice) offers lower than that. I think the best I've ever done buying with Best Offer is about 30% off BIN.

After all, if they were really interested in selling to the best offer, they would simply put the item up for auction.

As a seller, I only used BIN w/BO for high-value items for which I already have a minimum price set in my mind but would rather hold on to if I can't get my minimum price. I usually set the BIN about 25% over my minimum price. Have sold a couple of items this way, but have found that most people who submit offers are bargain-hunters who rarely offer more than 50% of my BIN price.

Makes sense to me, your offer was to low and the seller did not want to haggle with you OR and this happened to me once
I lowered my price and forgot to take off the best offer and an item that should go for 20.00 ( a coin) was being BIN for 20.00 with best offer.

Not much I could do there.

    Good for you.
