If it's got no real gold in it melt it and toss the slug into your recycle bin. If it actually has some gold content melt it and sell the slug to a jeweler.

Or sell it to a counterfeit collector!

Go to Early United States Coins - to order the New "Early United States Half Dollar Vol. 1 / 1794-1807" book or the 1st new Bust Quarter book!

Do you have the eBay link? Did you pay by credit card?

Counterfeit collectors might very well be interested in it.

Donate it to the ANA so they can study it and hopefully use the information in a constructive way.

Give it to the ANA for their counterfeit reference collection which they use for educational programs and courses. They will give you a receipt and you can take a tax deduction. Or, you could sell it again on eBay as a real coin. (just kidding image)

I should have taken a picture of the one that I put in a vise and bent over with a hammer before I sent it to the refiner for melt value. Good thing I spotted it was fake when I bought it along with the rest of a ten piece type set.

Yes, you contact your Congressman and Attonery General, this is mail fraud and over $250.

Ebay has this guys address and contact information, just becuase the sale was done on EBay does not mean someone can sell counterfeit gold coins. You should also speak to your local police department.

Just don't roll over and take it, if you fight this you will win in the end but, it will take many phone calls and many emails and a few weeks or a few months.

Do not listen to anyone that says “there’s nothing you can do, no one can do anything they’re too busy” … that is complete BS.

I have always won these things, always.

I won against my emergency room surgeon who after being paid the full amount by my insurance company, for an emergency appendectomy, he wanted another $16,000 from me… my Congressman assisted there.

I won against a AAA service station who preformed $400 in unnecessary repairs on my car, the Department of Motor Vehicles Investigations unit helped me, I was referred to them by my local police.

I won against a parking garage that smashed my girlfriend’s car’s front end then claimed they had a sign that said “we’re not responsible”. My girlfriend said “there’s nothing I can do, they had a sign”… well, guess what, they were providing a service and they were charging for that service… they were responsible; she won in small claims court. THEN, when they still wouldn’t pay she said, “there’s nothing I can do, they just stiffed me” … nope, wrong… I called the sheriff’s office, that same day we went to the garage with her court award paperwork and … yup, she had a check by the end of the week.

No picture right now.......the eBay feedback page is over 90 days and the coin has not come back from PCGS.

The seller had 100% positive feedback..........I dont think they knew it, if that matters.

I could not tell it was fake either.
  • I will post a picture next week when it gets back from PCGS.

If you know anyone going to the summer Olympics give it to them. Let them "use" it there and have it return to most likely whence it came from.

Have you contacted the seller yet? What was his/her response. If he said too bad, I would simply email him with two options. 1. Refund my money or 2. Defend yourself in criminal court for selling couterfiet coins. I would right now make sure I save the auction page and photos of the coin just in case.

What did the seller say when you contacted them?

If he says tough did you pay with pay-pal?

If they say tough did you pay with a credit card through paypal? They will most likely side with you and get your funds back.
  • Is he an ANA memeber? If so he is required to take it back with no statute of limitations.

    Good for you!

Putting up with a shafting is the moral equivalent of a victim who does not report being raped. In a way that victim is culpable for the perp's subsequent offenses.

You'd be surprised how often it happens. I have seen the same thing with fraud victims.

I doubt if the locals will do anything because they can claim jurisdictional issues (although they usually have venue if they want to pursue it).

Did you notify your state's Attorney General? Were the mails or interstate commerce involved? Was a report made to the IRS?

I've put two in bezels and my daughter wears them around her neck. Mine are a 92cc $5, and a 74 $1. Both tested
at 22K so have the real deal in them.
