I aint got no face, I aint got a date, Im a lonely brockage... . doo doo doo doo

Faceless, Dateless, but not Clueless...
Here's a New Orleans Barber Dime struck by a Capped Die Mint Error on which the date was clearly identifiable.

As looking at the shelf-doubled mint mark it's a 1903-O/O variety.

Neat piece. Thanks for sharing it.

The song could use a little work though.

I'm registering a high coolometer reading on that.
<< <i>Are those scatches? Did someone try to "test" it to see if it was silver? >>
No the only mark is on the reverse... the obverse struck by the capped die is mirroring all the minor slab holder scratches.
<< <i>Cool coin, and great song by Louisiana's own Clarence "Frogman" Henry... I saw the Frogman at the Ponchatoula Strawberry Festival a few years back. >>
It is a great song... but this is my favorite performance (Fast Forward to 6 minutes)

That's debatable.
so I'm not familiar at all with the
1903-0/O Repunched Mintmark,
but to me, it appears that the
"O" on this Brockage Dime is
doubled due to the Brockage
strike, and does not appear to be
a Repunched Mintmark.
It has the 'ejection' or 'mechancial'
doubling look, flat shelf secondary
impression.
Yes, I see that the leaves above the
mm are not doubled, but are you
sure it's a 1903-O Reverse from that
die characteristic???
Just wondering, after viewing the
scanned mintmark area.

There's a few RPM's on the New Orleans Barber Dimes, the 1899, 1901, 1903, and 1909.
There's is a touch of doubling on the D in Dime and O in One... but nothing to the degree of the Mint Mark, which exactly matches the characteristics of a 1903-O/O as illustrated in David Lawrence's Barber Dime Guide.
Why in the heck did they slab it with the boring side forward??????????
TD
I have the Kevin Flynn Book on
Barber Dimes, but not the
David Lawrence book you mentioned.

FredWeinberg, you might be more comfortable if you sit corrected... especially when typing

Maybe they showcase the side with the problem
