My guess is.......that's a tough one.

What I am fairly certain of is that this coin has been cleaned in the past, and I don't necessarily mean the die flow lines or possibly hairlines on the reverse field from pic#1.
    The obverse shows definite hairlining.

I might call this one an impared proof from the image.
  • Freaking gorgeous coin!

I'd lean toward a business strike that was most likely polished or rubbed a bit too much with a not-so-soft cloth, thus the parallel hairlines on the obverse.

Even so, congrats on a super sharp addition to your collection!

In my opinion you have to say it is a Proof until you can find some business strike die markers.

Interesting rim... OK, I'll go "proof" but I also think there's a 50/50 chance I'm wrong.

I vote business strike. A proof example would show reflective surfaces between the vertical pales of the shield. Those surfaces are on the same plane of the die as the fields, and would not have the frosted, or matte look.

    Business strike.

BTW, you freaked me out on this one. I recognized the die polish on the top of the reverse and knew the date before I even started scrolling down. What a waste of brain cells!

It's not a dime but it's a proof example I just shot for another forum member. Hope he does not mind me posting it.

From this example I'm thinking yours is a business strike.

This coin has the business strike die markers, it was rumored that proofs too were struck from these dies but none have seemed to surface. The coin was removed (by me) from a ANACS proof holder.

The coin is worth more as a business strike than a proof but as a proof it is a nice discovery.
