I saw a slabbed coin with the label stating only "Genuine" at the most recent Long Beach show. I guess it's a good service for the rarer coins that may have before been bb'd for various reasons but now at least get the authenticated seal of approval.

That makes no sense. At a lower cost per coin they'd have seen substantially higher volume. >>
Sure it does. they've talked about it watering down their public perception by slabbing problem coins. This way, they can gain more revenue from the collectors that have high dollar problem coins while keeping the lesser problem stuff out of their holders. I'm sure they see it as a 'win-win'
this may also be a trial balloon; if their stock continues to sink, they may slash the price and start to slab lesser problem coins too.
PCGS "Genuine" is a response to requests made by PCGS customers, most notably dealers that make a market in PCGS coins (preferentially). I think it is a great move for the hobby.

Many on this Board have previously supported this idea in other Threads and not just for rare coins. I don't think the service should(if it actually is)be limited to rare damaged or clean coins. ANY LEGITIMATE NON-COUNTERFEIT COIN SUBMITTED FOR SERVICE THAT WOULD BE A CANDIDATE FOR A BODY BAG SHOULD HAVE THIS DESIGNATION. IT WOULD BE GOOD FOR THE HOBBY AND THE PRICE FOR THE SERVICE WAS ALREADY PAID. NOBODY PAID WITH THE HOPE OF GETTING A LITTLE PLASTIC BAG. Further, a coin submitted that is counterfeit should receive a designation stating it is counterfeit. This would also be good for the hobby. Respectfully, John Curlis
How long before CAC starts stickering these coins?

of key issue to this service is that such coins can be included in registry sets..."THAT'S HUGE"
to those who have registry set stoppers now they can fill those holes..."MANY REJOICE OVER THAT"
these coins truly can be treasure hunt worthy by all means too...
example given---alot of copper get's bagged for questionable color---now some of those will be resubmitted for this service---even though they just needed to be resubmitted was all
matte proof lincoln registry set builders should be relieved in the fact now a "genuine" 1909 vdb matte proof can finish a set off and for us working stiffs...it's time to celebrate
look at the standing liberty quarter series...now a "genuine" 1916 can be finish that set
many knuckleheads will not see the beauty of a forrest due to a couple dead trees...this is such a case
registry set builders should see such beauty now with ease as yes..."genuine" are registry set approvedand now many hoops can be jumped through
everything in life is but merely on loan to us by our appreciation....lose your appreciation and see

Seems kind of strange to me since you can get a coin graded for much less than that where it has to be authenticated anyway.
<< <i>Not for the feint of heart. The service is extra and I think it's $100.

If you've got a problem coin that would otherwise bodybag, and want to still get in a PCGS holder, this is the only option.

Wouldn't hurt my feelings if the fee came a bit though.

PCGS didn't want the volume of "Genuine Service Level" coins to be too high
