Paypal issue... need help with a from you Computer Gals & Guys

BroadstruckBroadstruck Posts: 30,497 ✭✭✭✭✭
I can not get into my paypal... due to a "Cookie Tracker" which my virus protection will not remove.

It just continually times out.

Is there any safe download to cure my PC?

Thanks in advance!

  • Firstly update your anti virus software, secondly Ad-Aware 2008 7.1.0.8 is a very good free spyware and adware remover

Have you already entered your Paypal password while trying it? If so change your password immediately.

I've found adaware to be ineffective against the kind of think you're describing. i got a virus last week and my brother who runs a small personal PC service shop for a living recommended two free softwares: spybot search and destroy, and Asquared. I installed and ran both and removed about a dozen malicious things that the trojan had downloaded after installing itself. Both are free but I don't have time to get the links for you right now. Good luck. --Jerry

After you download you'll want to update it first. The download never had the most current virus/malware lists. --Jerry

Try downloading another browser like firefox or heaven forbid Safari for Windows. It's only a short term fix but they should get you into pay-pal.

There's a possibility you have spyware on your system. It may have captured your password when you tried to get in. Can you get to another safe PC to change your Paypal password?

Thanks everyone, as Life is good once again and all is fixed. image

Spybot kicked butt, and Firefox is much faster... almost like Internet Explorer on Nitro! image

Isn't Firefox awesome? I've been using it for quite a few years now, and I've never had any problems with viruses or spyware.

However, I would also recommend that you download Threatfire which is an awesome (and free) anti-spyware and virus program.

Better use more than spybot. Combine it with Trend Micro, AVG, Spywareblaster, for starters. No one program is sufficient, especially if one of them is a McAfee product.

McAfee is what I was using it did squat! image

Many times these votes mean nothing. All a competing software company needs to do is send an e-mail link to it's 431 employees and thus 431 negative votes. --Jerry

I installed McAfee on a machine years ago. it conflicted with one of my programs. it had no uninstall program and I could get no help from the company. I finally unstalled it by deleting everything on the hard drive and in the registry that I could recognize as Mcafee. What a PITA. I now think of McAfee as a virus itself.

I just had to uninstall spybot (now that I'm through with it). The memory resident spy detector slowed my computer way down--probably because I'm too cheap to buy enough memory but thought I'd mention this.
