The first year that I can remember a current year, non error, card being worth $1 was 1981 with the Fernando rookies. I subscribed to SCD long before it was 1 huge sales ad (think SMR), and people were paying $1.25 for the Topps Valuenzuela rookies.
<< <i>I have to ask....why is that Jerome Walton card graded?? I figure the grading fees are about twice as much as that card is worth in GEM MT condition. >>
So someone can have a completed set all graded PSA 10, I believe there is a least one all PSA 10 1989 UD BB set on the registery.

Wow. Ok. I really hope PSA has taken extra special care of whoever came up with the idea for the Set Registry.

I only spent $5 on the grading fees. It fills a hole in my Rookie of the Year registry set, and looks good doing it.
I'm a sucker for the Registry, but others are even more so. A while back, a 1983 Fleer Ron Kittle PSA 10 was bid up to $53 by a couple of registry guys.
As a lifelong LSU fan, I offended myself by forgetting about the Ben McDonald craze.
My best story about the 1986 Donruss Canseco was a trade. I drove to a card shop about an hour from me. Guy had a sign in the window stating he would trade a half box of unopened 86 Donruss wax packs for one MINT Canseco rookie. I traded him two for the entire box and pulled 4 Canseco's. Not to mention a few Gallaragas, O'Neils and McGriffs. Was a great day.
I'm going to have to co-sign almost all of the cards here. I have almost all of those gooden, eric davis, canseco, frank thomas, etc cards ... they're all nice memories but maybe worth at the most $1 ea (maybe the Gooden topps traded is worth a few more) .... my collection is worth more if I donate it then sell it at this point.

Still have to love the look of 89 UD though!! >>
'89 Upper Deck changed baseball cards forever. It was an inevitable progression.

Am proud to be able to say that I saw both him and the Phillie Phanatic perform live and in person!
My worthless card candidate would have to be the very first card I ever pulled out of a wax pack....a 1977 Topps Larvell Blanks.

It was hot, but never as hot as the Griffey. Perhaps you were thinking of THIS card...

At it's peak popularity in 1990-91, yes it did!
