Ebay added REPRODUCTION for all coin categories

Ebay has recently added REPRODUCTION subcategories for all denominations, so they SHOULD be receptive to reports for miscategorized items by the Chinese counterfeiters. At least keeping that garbage out of the main categories should reduce some of the clutter.

It'd be nice to think so, but they've had a category for reproductions (or copies or replicas or something along those lines) for years, seemingly with no effect on miscategorized listings, so I wouldn't hold my breath waiting on an improvement.

EBAY policy grants T&S a non-entrepreneurial mandate; they are NOT charged
to search for violations in MOST categories.
T&S will/can remove fake/replica coins, IF they are in the wrong category. The
ONLY way T&S knows of such violations is when users report them.
A large seller/violator was recently NARUd for replica violations. They took their
gold-plated garbage to other sites and are still operating.
Hell, I don't need to exercise.....I get enough just pushing my luck.

I hate wading through all the repros as bad as anybody but it looks to me like we need a new rule like "Reproduction coins can only be listed in the Reproduction Category."
Am I wrong?

<< <i>But ebay encourages listings in multiple categories and charges double listing fees for that feature. So if I were a seller with an repro 1793 cent I would list it in the repro category and the real category. Doesn't that make sense? Is that in violation of any rule?

No, Jerry. You are right on the money!

all those fake purses, shoes and the like....

I go to Coins, and use the search function.
Then, all categories are mixed in the search result.
In my case, I will get all the replicas in my search result whether or not they are in a replica section. This is even more the case when the reproduction categories are merged together with the real ones in this way.
If changing the categories is the way to go ( I say if...), then I think the replicas should be kept completely out of the main coin category. There should be a separate main category called "Fakes, replicas and worthless pieces of crap", and this category should apply for both coins, stamps, art, watches and designer clothes.
Oh boy, would that new main category get many hits...!!!
Anyways, the Chinese have always said they are selling reproductions... the problem is, "copy or replica" is not actually on the coins, and now that they are making them in sliver with the correct weight, counterfeits are going to hurt the hobby.
Ebay just wants to keep the sales from China, they do not care about the counterfeits, all they care about is their short term bottom line. They'd rather see profits now, with counterfeits, and they are not worried about the long term bottom line... i.e. when or if the counterfeits hurt the hobby so much that overall coin sales plummet.
If they get sued, they are going to claim due diligence "we did respond to all the complaints, we made a reproduction category!"
