Got the US Mint 'CIRC. $1 COIN DIRECT SHIP" today - photos posted

claychaserclaychaser Posts: 4,406 ✭✭✭✭
This was the program where the mint sold these at face value, and even paid the postage.

My YN, TrainNut, is going to search the rolls for no edge errors and "pop tops". Dad gets the CCard miles on Southwest.

Here's what the rolls look like. Quick shots with the Nikon Coolpix:

thank you for going to the trouble of taking pics of the roll.
but the other part of my mind is thinking god, those are ugly
coins and the dollar bill will have to disappear before i ever
consider using them in day to day transactions.

I got mine a few weeks ago, earned my CC rebate and have already spent about half of the 500 I got. I have barely even glanced at the design and have not even bothered looking for errors. image

I got my 250 worth last week. No errors, lots of bag marks. Spent a few today. The clerk look at them flipped them over a couple times and tossed them into the dollar bin. I wonder if the next person in line got them back as change?

Did they just get dropped in your mailbox, or did someone have to sign for them?

They were just dumped in the "overflow" box in a group of locking "cluster" boxes. The locks are the dime store mailbox type. No signitures, shipped by DHL to my local post office for carrier delivery.

Yup...they are using the bank roll wrappers & not the special US Mint wrappers that the mint uses for their individual Pres. Rolls.

TrainNut has looked through 5 rolls, all P's, no pop top candidates or missing/double edge lettering.

  • Why not spend an entire pay check? It face value, and you don't lose anything.

You're right, but the order limit was 500 coins. I would have ordered more to get more miles!

    "Product is not Available"....

I would have placed an order. Hope they do it again. Now that I am in the USA again, I've tried getting dollars at a couple banks... no joy.

(I did get a bunch of $2 Bills- good tip fodder.)

I got my $250 in JQA dollars last week but have only gone through one roll so far.
My bank happened to have original rolls of George Washington dollars a couple weeks ago
so I bought about $150 to check. Nothing. Between those and the $500 box of halves I got weeks
ago I'll spend the JQA dollars eventually image I did pay a $40 grocery bill last night at the self-checkout
with all dollar coins and halves!

And the most important part is the shipping is F-R-E-E!

These actually cost the US Mint money to get to you which is a weird little twist...........

I ordered two boxes and looked through all of the rolls. I found one pretty good error (or so I've heard on here)... Link

All of the coins were P mints and most had lots of bag marks. There is also what I call the mole chin variety, but it seems pretty common... about one in every 10 I looked through.

I didn't find any with missing edge lettering, but good luck on your search!

It looks like a clipped planchet to me. When they punched out the coin blank planchet from the metal strip, they got too close to the edge.

    Worth keeping!
