Change in policy effect on FS demand and pricing

Now that even Platinum level club members cannot submit coins for FS labels will demand slaken??

I know I have some 2007 and 2008 issues that had remain boxed waiting for me to get around to submitting them for FS labels.
Now that that option is closed(as of 6-30-08) I may sell my prior FS labeled coins and replace them with non FS examples and pocket the premium.

Perhaps like many I don't play the registry game but did like the FS label and flag.
Now I hate the idea of having some with it and some without.
I hate even more the idea of paying some PCGS dealer an artifical premium beyond the FS cost.

Maybe we need a Platinum plus club level where FS would still be an option.

  • It sucks, doesn't it?

PCGS claims they are getting overwhelmed with calls from idiots. If that were the case, just do away with the Collectors Club all together and make all submission thru Dealers not just First Strike.

This change is simply "tighting things up" to allow for PCGS Dealers to be the exclusive first handlers of FS. They have been complaining.

Hey, as a business owner, I can surely understand the Dealers point of view. They support and promote PCGS, so one hand should wash the other.

Besides the ASE's, can we really expect going forward for the First Strike label to disappear altogether? Or can we expect authorized dealers to pull out the dough needed to throw together Bulk Orders of Gold and Platinum, as they will not face competition from Collector Universe Members, resulting in lower POPS across the board, and perhaps more of a premium.

    You're very cynical.

    And sadly, you're probably right.

Have you considered submitting your "boxes"? After all, thats the reason you saved them right? For the First Strike™ designation?

If I were you, I'd just submit them and be done with it as I doubt any authorized PCGS dealer would pay any premium for what you have unless it's anniversary sets.

Yes, I feel blind sided and frustrated as I was getting into these First Strike™ submissions as well but it's PCGS's ball game and they can do whatever they want. Right?

Just because the bulk department will be used for First Strike™ submissions does not mean that the standard bulk submission rules apply. Yes, lots of dealers do submit green monster boxes of SAE's but I do not believe that there is any minimum requirements for the First Strike™ label.

5 coin or 500 coin submissions will get graded as long as the date requirements are met.

I also do not see this as the end of the First Strike™ program since dealers can and do make big bux on these slabs. Especially with the MS or PR70 coins. It'll just be an exclusive club after July 1st.

Actually, this just means neophytes will be less frequently ripped off... of course, dealers can still do it... however, if the premium goes up, and the market shrinks, less entry level collectors will be hurt by a meaningless label that only costs extra money they could have spent on other acquisitions. I try to look on the bright side... Cheers, RickO

Thanks Lyds, I hadn't considered that, and just to clarify, what then is the difference between submitting bulk vs. non bulk departments, or is it just another label.

But the question is if collector club members cannot submit coins directly for FS labels will they lose interest??
Will you be willing to pay the extra juice for a FS the PCGS dealer will ask beyond actual cost of submission??

How many Collectors Club members bought FS on the secondary market - as opposed to making many FS and selling them on the secondary market?

It has been really hard for me to grasp the concept of why otherwise intelligent and sensible folks would fall for such an overt marketing ploy that means absolutely nothing!

Need the following OBW rolls to complete my 46-64 Roosevelt roll set:
    1947-P & D; 1948-D; 1949-P & S; 1950-D & S; and 1952-S.
Any help locating any of these OBW rolls would be gratefully appreciated!

    It's a label.

It's never been more than a label.

Now, it's a label that is being "rationed."

How much sense does that make?
