In light of the BST mess

After reading the highlite's of the current BST mess and seeing how many poster's there are just using that forum and have not posted on this or any other forum, maybe it's time to only allow posting there only after being a member for 1 year and have xxx amount of post's or some other way to screen before there start selling. I only buy there from members that I have seen over here posting maybe passing up a few good coins but using that has helped me as I never had a bad sale or trade there.

Or those considering a deal could just run a forum search on the seller.

Seems like anyone could enforce this themselves just by looking a little deeper into the seller's history here.

Interesting dilemma. When do you know it is safe to trust someone? I'm just now coming up on one year, and have had about 35 positive transactions in that year's time. Less than two months into my 'membership', a forum member shipped me a semi-expensive coin essentially on approval. He was going out of town, said he would ship the coin to me that day, and if I liked it, send him a check when he got back. I didn't even ask for approval, I just wanted the coin and would have gladly waited. This kind of 'set the tone' for me, so to speak, and I have done the same in return to several folks. I guess until I get burned I'll still be trusting to everyone....but I agree, it does help when you see some informational and educational posts coming from a member, and not just coins for sale or WTB.

if your referring to conder101, I find that highly unlikely and unbelieveable. He has always been held in high regards, and I have dealt
with him in the past. He is no longer active here because he was banned due to personal opinion, and I doubt there was a transaction between
you both as he cannot log onto this board anymore as far as I know, and its been that way for over a year. If you did a deal with him ATS
then this should be addressed there.

still doubt what your saying, conder has better things to do with his time.

Over the yrs that I've been fortunate enough to be a part of this community I've done many buys, and a couple of sells on the BST. All but one were smooth as silk, but no matter how good the rep people run into bad situations that tant their perspectives and morals in a time of weekness. No mater the saftey-net in place, this can and will happen again.

Unfortunately it is going to get worse before it gets better, you know, with the economy and all spinning downward the $ needs for some will outweigh the morality of the situation. I caught and read a super thread the other day where a forum put their collective heads together and caught the guy. Our group has done this on a smaller scale in the past.

I've never had a bad experience on the BST here. I have had some folks ask me to do some quirky or unusual things, which I have generally declined to do. As far as straight forward negotiated transactions, I've never had anyone back away from a deal.

I have been burned on the BST only once, but it was for over $500. I bought a collection that was overstated and overgraded. I returned for a refund that very same day. The seller said I had switched a coin and offered a partial refund. I have a 100% feedback rating on Ebay--nearly 1500 and hundreds of deals on the BST. I feel comfortable saying that I believe no one would have a difficult time dealing with me. After much bickering, I accepted a refund of $2000 from a $2540 deal. Frankly I dont have the time to pursue this as even if I won there is very little chance I would get my money anyway.

But I do have a long memory and will visit central Washington State in the future. The seller is still posting For sale and WTB on the BST.

My word of advice is not to deal with anyone who spells such as the following---tomarrow, alls, submitt, drage, finel, parsal, seddel, begenner, priorety, awere, ect. I could copy a bunch more but it was becoming too difficult to read the PM's

  • I too had a BST problem with a fellow member in early 2007. I was sent a cleaned, overgraded coin in the 1k range but was promised an original AU55 example. The seller gave me a story about how he could not accept returns. I waited a few months and sold it on eBay (listed as cleaned with huge pics) and got my money back due to an increase in the price of gold. I decided to give the seller a break but I learned a valuable lesson.

My advice to anyone buying or selling on the BST is buyer beware. Anyone can sign up and begin to post on these forums. Other than this one incident, my BST experiences have been fantastic. Once I began to trade with the pillars of this community, I have not had a single problem.

hey Mike, I guess you learned here that it's ok to out someone, even encouraged - unless they are popular. Then the mob turns on you image

The accused has many ways to respond -including directly to the injured party. In dact, that would probably be the best and most productive response.
