Please don't tell my draped and capped bust coins that I have a box of Modern (post 1840) coins in the safe.
Sometimes I can't help myself and something non-bust calls out to me. Here is one of those coins.
What do you think PCGS graded this morgan (has PL+ obverse and only a slightly PL reverse)?
Well Baley got it right
this coin is graded PCGS MS63 and, in my opinion, is right on. This was perhaps kind of a trick question.
The coin has the most wonderful check and hardly a blemish on it. However, when rotated in the light the mirror surfaces
have faint hairlines, to me it looks a lot like many of the proof 63 Seated halves. I tried to photo it to show the fine hairlines
but they really don't show too well. The mirrors magnify all the small hairlines.
This is still a great coin and for MS63 price, is, in my opinion a great coin

<< <i>Are the diagonal scratches on the obverse on the coin or the holder? >>
Those have to be on the plastic, I will second the 66 thought I almost went 65 because of the chatter by the nose.
solid ms65.
Possibly PL.

cartwheel on the reverse to get it. Obverse is sweet looking with more chatter in the fields than
on the cheek. a 66 is not out of the question but, I doubt that.

I agree. I wish all my 63's looked like that. As a matter of fact, I wish ANY of my 63's looked like that. I would have guessed 65.

Isn't friction a sign of circulation?
What makes you guys go so high on your grade guesses? Miss Liberty being so clean?
wonderful coin nonetheless and the higher grade guesses are understandable

If you think these hairlines are bad, check out MS 63 Seated & Trade $s. Many look like someone ice-skated on them. I saw a 59 O $ in 3 that looked like the Great White in Jaws tried it and decided he didn't like it.
Baley has a knack of finding a really nice coin for an MS 58 or MS 63. He's smart; this way he doesn't break the bank buying coins.
