This Board has the best metal finders in the world as members.
I've been lurking here when not over at the US Coin Forum.
I am here to avoid the common mistakes of a first purchase, but I want to get the best equipment to do it right.
Like anything, I know there are nuances that must be learned, but I'm a quick study.
So, if you knew what you know now, back then....what would you get to do it right?
I humbly thank you all who answer....

What location and type of detecting will make a big defference in what you need.
In 1990 I went top of the line White's Eagle for about $800.00 Dollars. That detector can still hunt side by side with today's White's TOP OF THE LINE "DFX" $1100.00 Dollar detector.
E-Bay---Eagle II SL 90 around $300 to $400 Dollars used.
E-Bay---DFX Around $600 to $800 Dollars used.
Good Luck
Jerry
I have to agree with the idea of researching. The internet provides many wonderful resources. Just be careful of where you look. Who is sponsoring the site that you're getting your information from? Think PCGS vs NGC. Hope this helps.
