**UPDATE**Unfreaking Believable! + Another Outraged Customer.

**Update** Just got off the phone with Goldbergs. Didnt catch the name of the guy I spoke to. He did say that the shipping was wrong and it would be reduced. I asked about the bid history and was told the guy who deals with the ebay stuff was out today. He asked that I email him with my concerns and call back tomorrow. They'll check it out and lower the prices based on the information. Sounds like theyre gonna make this right.
So a few days ago I started a thread regarding this auction that I won.

Today I recieved the invoice which includes a $48 shipping fee!Is this normal? I think its outrageous. Time to make a call monday morning. This will definatly be the last time I bid in a live ebay auction.
Here is the invoice I recieved.

That could explain $30 of the $48.

Just doesn;t seem right!
The name is LEE!
I have never bid with the Goldberg boys before so I have no experience...
However, I just tried to read their terms and conditions...frankly...I think it looks a bit like the IRS Tax Codes...
My lease where I live is far less complicated...ditto for the contract to buy my car...
That alone would have been all I needed to stay away...Ebay is a PITA all by itself...why go thru them to bid at another auction place...and they add on a 20% buyers fee???
I personally have no use for their auctions...
(edited after reading update that they are apparently correcting the errors...removed derogatory comment)
I looked some and could not find a shipping price list for Goldberg. It might be hidden somewhere *shrug*.
$228 owed on a $150 winning bid....
That is sad.
I do believe they owe you a manicure/pedicure and a neck rub also.
Not to mention the big fat kiss while they did their nasty deed.

Regardless the $48 S&H is ludicrous. I never bid without knowing S&H charges in advance. I guess this is why.

<< <i>Winning bid should have been $95.Check the bid history. I was waiting for an invoice to see what they charged me before contacting them. >>
Looks like they decided to have you bid against yourself...let me guess...your max bid was $150...
Well...you do as you see fit...
If it were me...I'd see if they would make it right...and if they didn't I'd tell them where to go, where they could kiss me...and where they could stick their coin...
Don't get me wrong...I wouldn't be rude about it...and I'd even smile when I said it...
I'd freakin' refuse to pay it. Simply refuse. What are they gonna do? Sue?

BTW that is messed up on the auction. Tell them to stick it. If you get a live person before your cell phone goes dead.

1. Outrageous shipping (against eBay rules - it's a form of fee avoidance)
2. Failure to properly manage bids according to eBay rules - the coin was auctioned on eBay and should follow eBay rules.

That "Terms And Conditions Of Sale For Coin And Currency Auctions" window is really a jumble of words and is almost impossible to read not to mention confusing.
NO WAY does it cost that much to handle, package and ship a single coin!

Make sure you contact them first and see if they will make do on proper shipping charges.($15 max if by registered, $10 max if sent w/ insurance or not)
If they do not lower the shipping then file a complaint with ebay for the 2 reasons listed above. Ebay will side with you for the excessive shipping charge for sure.

....and don't forget to neg them.

Now that I think about it, I'd let it pass anyway, $48 shipping....hell, for that price, one of the brothers should be hand delivering it. Thanx for giving me a reason to stay away from THEM.
I've never had trouble with them when calling and they have always been helpful.
BTW it may have been the ebay system that jacked up your bids. I faxed in absentee bids directly to them (so one of their representatives would bid on the floor in real time up to my max, sort of like the normal ebay model but with a human doing the bidding at the auction for me). I went way over the estimates for my max bid and am happy to say I won both for about 60% of what I authorized. I gave them the opportunity to screw me over (I REALLY wanted the coins obviously) yet they didnt' take it.
It was worth the extra time/hassle a couple years ago to go through the process to get a bidder number from them. I only have to pay 15% vs ebay's 20% because I dealt directly with them.
Just my opinion, but I think it was a simple goof and a friendly phone call with get it fixed quickly. Then I would use that auction to establish a track record with them and get a bidder number so you can go avoid ebay's 5% penalty next time.
I will remember their name and avoid them
I would not pay the outrageous shipping charges
They have to pick it up
Pack it up
Drive to the post office
Pay for shipping
Drive back
So for something that would cost around $10, I got charged $30 (and that was the CHEAPEST price I got).
Not a bad business eh?
And this will be the LAST time I bid with that company.

Funny how that works....I never never never put in an absentee bid anymore. The one time I did, I ended up winning at my max bid (gee, no surprise there) which was about double the value of the coin after all the fees. Chalk that up for lesson learned.

Why did you bid yourself up, Rob? Ain't that a dumb thing to do?
Anyway, Seated coins are going up, so you need not worry too much. You can resell this and recover all your money. You just need to wait til you're 107 1/2 years old.
I'm skeered to death to bid on those kinda auctions.
At least you're a brave fellow.
Ray
Call them. In my mind, shouldn't be any more than $95 + $19 + $15 or so. Back out of the deal if they won't see it your way. If you're blacklisted, it doesn't matter, I doubt you'd be bidding on another one of their auctions again anyway.
It is clearly just an error. If not, just walk away

In looking at the auction I thought it was PCGS graded until reading the above post!!! I would call Monday and if it's not resolved to your satisfaction, just don't pay. I seriously doubt they will come after you with the big guns for $200. Not sure about the blacklist sharing though. Thanks for the heads up on this company!!!

At that rate, I would INSIST that they blacklist me. In fact, please let this forum know if you can accomplish anything with a phone call. If you can't get satisfaction on this, then Goldberg Auctions needs to be outed for what they really are.
I would definitely file ebay complaints for excessive shipping charge abuse, and for failure to properly manage the bidding process, as noted above.
This is exactly why *most* coin dealers have the reputations that they have.
I knew it would happen.
