Strange looking Memorial Cent, 1977 possible error?

RMLTM79RMLTM79 Posts: 549 ✭✭✭
I found this in my register the other day at work. I'm a novice collector and I'm still learning, but I'm pretty sure this is some sort of error. As you can see the bars run across the coin, just on the obverse, reverse is normal. Not sure if this is a mint error or someone with alot of time on their hands. Anway, I grabbed it just incase. Thanks for any insight.

Looks like woodgrain. What is the date and mintmark? That will determine the value.

Can we get a better pic? Can't tell much from that pic.

Sorry about the picture guys, I tried posting a larger picture but I'm not too sure how to post pictures yet, ended up real small. I'll try to get a better one on here. Thanks for the responses.

Copper-alloy cents from the late 1970's and early 1980's sometimes show a woodgrain pattern on one or both faces. It evidently reflects an improper alloy mix.
