A question that is driving me nut's

Why are the 2008 reverse of 2007 silver eagles prices going through the roof? While the Washington dollar with missing edge lettering never reached any where near these prices and is just as rare?

  • You can go to the bank and get Washington Dollars but you have to order the Silver eagles from the mint.

It takes more of an effort to get the eagles from the ming then it does to get the dollar coins from the bank.

    This is just a guess

Also, the ASE's are widely collected... and the error hype is still strong. Cheers, RickO

There is the word I was thinking of - hype.
  • So in the long run which do you think will hold the best value?

I put it in the same category as speared bison, extra tree, wounded wings, wide AM.....

short-term interesting to some people, profitable to others...but no real collecting "legs".

Best of the two? The eagle but only for the silver.

the main difference is that ASEs have an established collector base. GW dollars were brand new at the time.

Additionally, there may be fewer of the ASEs

I disagree, this will always be a popular coin, it has everything going for it. Silver, Low mintage, SAE, easy to see.

I do not normally collect varieties (only major errors) but I did buy one NGC MS69 ER for $180 and plan to never sell it.

Prices may go down a bit (or NOT) but this will ALWAYS be Very popular IMO

And the Speared Bison is still holding it's own.

"A question that is driving me nut is"

That is the effect of putting the apostrophe where you put it in the title of your post.

As to the question itself - both hype, and the fact that the 2008/2007 will become a must-have variety for serious SAE collectors - not unlike the 1995 W.
