Interesting newspaper story today about "Coins" causing trouble in Iraq.

I just read today's local paper. In it is an article about US forces in Iraq passing out to local residents "Coins" that have religious sayings on them [i.e. quoting from John 3:16] in Falujah is creating problems since some of the recipients of the coins are viewing the passing out of such coins to be attempts by the US Forces to force Christianity on them.

I suspect that this story will develope "legs" and soon be splashed across the media as an example of the "Evil" that the USA is foisting upon the world [as it fits "the template" of what is "newsworthy"].

I am in favor of the recreation of the INQUISITION .

In this case, one must learn to love America or die

I wonder if (instead of passing out coins with religious sayings on them) the local residents of Falujah would complain if the US Military personel passed out $100.00 bills (that have the motto "In God We Trust" on them?

I suspect that the complaints would quickly vanish.

Personally, I think that their problems would go away if the followed the sayings on those coins, although I have not seen them.

Here is a link to the article. Proselytizing is a violation of military regulation, according to the article. It's also not the smartest thing to do given the, shall we say, delicate position of the United States in Iraq and the Middle East.

Sadam had a whole lot of cash stashed that was recovered. It seems they favor our currency even though it says "In God We Trust "....

The Marine giving out those coins is arrogant and insensitive to the beliefs of the vast majority of the population of Iraq.
