eBay sellers, do you leave feedback at all now?

With the "enhanced" feedback system, what is your strategy? Do you leave positive as soon as you get paid, wait until you get a positive, or just not leave feedback at all.

I've bitten the bullet, and leave positive as soon as I get paid. I'm sure I'll get an extortion negative someday, and I'll just deal with it.

I'd like to see a statistic on the number/percentage of negatives that get left by buyers now, with the new system. Has to go way up I'd think.

I'm not a sellr, but I have bought a couple things lately and noticed that the sellers are not leaving feedback until I do so first. But that is basically the norm for most anyway.
  • In theory, sellers are supposed to leave feedback upon receiving payment, but most of them wait

until the buyer posts their feedback, even though it has nothing to do with the payment for the item.

I leave feedback as soon as I get paid but maybe one out of ten sellers do it for me. I feel
if some one who doesn't know me from Adan's House Cat sends me a buck or a grand they
took the first step and they should get feedback right then. As for the new rules I believe
eBay will be more adpt to remove bogue negative feedback than before or at least I hope so.

I think if there was a push for as many sellers as possible to stop leaving feedback as a protest for the new rules
maybe after buyers start complaining about not getting feedback they will change the rules

99% of the time, I leave feedback as soon as I get paid. The only time I wait is if it's a new buyer with feedback below 10 or 20

I've always left feedback as soon as I've received clear payment, and don't see any reason to change now.

  • With all of the bit##ing and complaining about ebay, why do you even give a crap??? I sell very little and leave feedback when paid and when I buy I leave feedback once I get it. I especially love the sellers that send emails ASKING for feedback!!

The overwhelming majority of sellers from these forums are good honest people who really shouldn't be worried about anything but the bottom line.

Is the idea to sell or amass numbers??

  • I had my feedback set up through Auctiva, everything was automatic....When the buyer left a + feedback it left a + for them from me.

When they left a - it didn't leave any feedback.

I leave feedback when I receive good funds. The buyer has done their part. I ship, leave pos feedback and move on.

I'm not leaving them feedback on how they like the item, that is their opinion, nor on if they leave good feedback, nor on how the USPS performs. So far the vast majority of folks have been reasonable and I have been able to molify the unreasonable ones at almost no cost.

<< <i>Is the idea to sell or amass numbers?? >>

The idea is to amass as many positives as you can so that future bidders don't worry about your reputation as a seller.

The original "theory" behind feedback was to give buyers and sellers a good picture over who they are dealing with via past eBay history. Unfortunately, some sellers and buyers have wielded feedback as an instrument to get what they want with threats of negative feedback.

Would anybody feel comfortable dealing with a buyer or seller that had a say more than 10 negatives over a 30 day period of time?

So yes, amassing numbers is a part of the eBay selling experience.

  • I don't see how anyone will qualify for the 15% discount of final value
fee's related to the seller dashboard. once buyers know they can leave
any feedback they want and not receive any negative in return they
will be lowering sellers star rating categories across the board.

I was able to squeak out the 15% requirement the first month it was an
option, but I doubt it will happen again.

sell your ebay stock if you own any. this new feedback policy is a total
joke. do they actually think their bottom line will improve with these
new changes.......one huge problem with buyer confidence is LACK OF
KNOWLEDGE WHEN IT COMES TO KNOWING HOW TO USE EBAY. Ebay
needs to do a better job of teaching new buyers how to use their site,
90% of all the problems I have on ebay are with new buyers.

When I started, I left feedback as soon as I was paid in good funds, as that was the buyer's side of the contract. After being held hostage in a non-delivery "dispute" that was settled with my presentation of a signature confirmation, I went with the rest of the crowd and only left immediate feedback for repeat customers and reciprocating positive feedback in kind otherwise. Now I leave feedback as soon as PayPal says the funds have been received and are clear.

Excellent question. Since the change, I've been wondering what the point is of leaving feedback that can only be positive, and have considered stopping. Not out of protest, but just because it seems like a waste of time. Of course, the vast majority of buyers are good, and 99.9% of the feedback I've left has been positive. But the point of the feedback system is to evaluate and rate a buyer or seller, to provide info to future buyers or sellers. It isn't supposed to be a reward for paying for your purchase. That should be a given, shouldn't it?
  • My practice of leaving FB first, when ever I sell something, has not changed at all.

The transaction may not be complete but their obligation to pay is and therefore imo deserved feedback should be left, but I think I'm in the minority with that belief.

  • I am just a small time buyer on ebay but will offer these comments.

I have always paid immediately via paypal if I won an auction. I expected to have a positive feedback very soon but I sure didn't complain if I didn't get one.

I always left a feedback as soon as I got the coin, except in maybe 2 cases.

1 it was truely not as describe or shown in the pics...I via emal agreed with the seller I would keep the coin but we would just forget about me leaving feedback,,,,,,,,,,,,he was ok with that.

    2. I never got the coin..........we talked about it a bit via mail, I agreed I would take the hit but not leave feedback..........it was again ok with the seller.

After all that I still say, as I have many times on here it is NOT RIGHT......... that a seller can NOT leave a negative if he isn't paid.

Maybe I still too simple but an auction winner bought a coin.........I have always had to pay for what I bout.

The new policy toward sellers sucks feedbay!

    rant over......sorry

You may or may not be in the minority, but the opinions seem to be pretty evenly divided to me -- and at this point, the dead horse has been beaten so badly that it's probably best to agree to disagree on this one.

I wait until my buyer informs me that he /she has the item and is happy.

or..........30 days goes by and if I had not heard from them I leave it then.

I'm a small time seller but leave feedback once I ship which ranges from same to next day, and I put the shipped thing in their feedback as well. The new feedback thing is goofy, and I have always felt the dsr's should be a two way street ie. dbr's, at least for a few of them, and as an example, guy buys May 1, and waits to checkout day 7 with a echeck, now ya gotta wait for days before shipping, a simple message would have been nice.

Since FB is voluntary, the idea that either party is "supposed" to leave FB is outside the scope of the policy.

I am currently leaving FB upon payment. Since buyers are allowed to leave NEGs because "Seller Did Not
Leave Feedback For Me Yet," sellers might as well leave it first, if they plan to leave it at all.

I quit worrying about feedback when I hit a couple of hundred. If a buyer needs to see more than that to make a decision, they've got other issues.

Same with leaving it - I always leave it when I get paid. Anyone wants to do it differently, that's their business.

If I am paid, of course I will leave positive feedback. So far, under this system, I have been paid without problem. I am not sure what to do if the buyer is a flake. Honestly, I have not figured out what to do. Obviously, I do not want to rate bad buyers positive. This is the big problem we sellers are facing. It is definately a difficult problem to solve now. So far the only answer is not to leave feedback at all, but that is not a good answer. Some people said to go ahead and leave a positive, but go to caps, and give them a bad write up. Sounds sort of good, but I do not like giving out an unwarrented positve.
  • I do, because I would want others to do the same for me.
  • When I am the seller I leave feedback as soon as I get paid.

Why should being satisfied be a requirement for positive feedback?
