is it just me or have you noticed that when somebody spends "way too much" for something its usually in a OGH slab

i'm beginning to resent Upgrade Potential (its fine as long as bidders would realize this same coins has Downgrade potential or, more than likely, the potential to grade exactly the same grade)

  • It doesn't matter what he paid for it.

It will automatically upgrade, probably to a 68, because it's in an OGH image

I just reviewed my Excel spreadsheet.

    I won a PCGS MS66RD from Stack's August E-vents in 2007 for $299 del'd!!!!!!

    LasVegasTeddy, methinks he got screwed!!!

BTW, PCGS has not changed their $550 price since August!!!

I would agree that $655 is a bit high for that coin. 6 - 8 months ago it was a $330 -$350 coin (PQ Example). I know that the 100th anniversary is approaching so that is the only reason that I can think of why the value has escalated so much. The illogical reasons are hysteria, hype and the fear of getting shut out at the window? image

I just had two lots close on eBay: an 1836 AU Bust half and an 1805 quarter. Lost over $200! Then this very common 1909 cent sells for more than my two early type coins combined. Geeesh. Maybe I should start dealing in modern coins. More suckers in that market, apparently. Nah. I like early type. I will just stop selling on eBay. image

That's the first thing I looked for, but there's no way to tell from those pics. Maybe the bidder asked for a close-up of the date....

you guys are right more then wrong but looking at the image...if you truly look...

off his shoulder in the right area...it looks like a die polish line and what could be a die chip in the right area on the reverse above the right wheat ear...man could that guy lol at the heysayers if???

those are points i focus on and whose to say a grader didn't catch a matty and i'm not seeing things on those notes about the image...

one must have high hopes...just what too if the guy needed a 66rd in an ogh if not for him but a client too

as too with all this flip $$$ being made off 07 reverses...this could but be free anyways

I know of a 66 RD that sold wholesale for $650 last month. It was a nice coin, but still only a 66. This date made a big advance from Jan to Apr.

Remember, an 09vdb in good was just over a buck a few years ago. It is up 8 fold now.

I think that may be the new avg price price on these, but I also think the seller was reaching from the old green holder trickbag as " a possible upgrade candidate ".

i think i see what you are talking about... the M in UNUM is simply
odd, but that could simply be a spot on the slab... as for the die
polish line, i am not seeing it.

Most PCGS MS-66 coins have been bringing between $500-550 in auctions over the past few months. One good thing about it being in an OGH (even if it has no upgrade potential) is that the color is most likely stable on the coin. This price doesn't really suprise me.

the reality is early Lincoln's are way up and that coin closed for an average price in todays market. I think they are overheating somewhat but the market is hot for Lincolns at the moment.
  • It's funny that I was bidding on this coin. I was somewhere around half of the final price though. I have done alot of research on Ebay for early PCGS Lincolns and their isn't much to choose from. So when nice ones come along they usually go high like this coin did. image
